“Im 'In Love' with the Lindrum.”
Reviewed December 29, 2010

I love this place. Everything about it. When i drive past it i just stare at it's beauty.

Formally a Billiards manufacturing building, whoever renovated this place deserves some sort of award. It's just perfect.
Like a piece of New York City right in the heart of Melbourne and just a 5 min walk from Fed Square.

My girlfriend and I decided to stay here for a romantic night away and we chose this place because of it's uniqueness.
We stayed in a suite with beautiful arch windows overlooking the sporting precinct. The bed was huge and extremly comfortable.

The main cocktail bar downstairs is just so adorable.

In fact, the whole place just oozes romance, so much so that my girlfriend and I are going to make it a yearly thing.

Love it! A far better experience than anything the Sheraton, Sofitel, Hilton, etc etc type hotels could ever even hope to offer you.

Great boutique hotel....classy, stylish, comfortable, luxurious, indulgent. I loved it 7 years ago, and it's great to know that it still lived up to my expectations. It does not have a gym or pool, but our deluxe room had a DVD and CD player....you can get DVDs and CDs from reception.

I had been wanting to stay at this hotel for some time and when I found a good rate on an internet site I snapped up a two night stay.

The hotel deserves its reputation as a classy, quality boutique hotel - the building restoration is sensitive and makes the most of those great high ceilings; the ground floor bar/lounge/restaurant is very cozy and sexy; the rooms are very generously sized; the staff are friendly. The location on Flinders Street (but away from the noise strectch near the station) is great.

My only complaint was that my shower was not quite right, but this was not a major problem - the room was great, and I enjoyed the hotel as much as I'd hoped I might.

Within minutes of pretty much everything including Federation Square, tram stations and the City this Hotel is a must. Its my second stay here and it won't be my last. Personal service, spacious comfortable room, great food all add up to a perfect experience. Pru was extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Keep it up !

My partner and I stayed at the Lindrum while in town for business. It's a great little property, a nice change from a larger chain hotel. It's got character, and is centrally located for the most part. Be sure to check out some of the great nearby restaurants on Flinders Lane- Coda and Cumulus come to mind. It's very close to some of the city's best green spaces-parks and gardens. If you're traveling in good weather, you're sure to take advantage of it. The staff was very friendly, but seemingly not that knowledgeable on the city, overall, which tends to be the norm in Melbourne. The rooms were spacious, and the bed is VERY comfy.
They don't have a gym, unfortunately, but there's a Virgin gym nearby. And, lastly, the wi-fi only works from the common area (lobby). Although they do have dsl in the room, it's quite slow. Overall, a nice place!

The Lindrum is a very cute, unique building on Flinders Street. It is different from all the 'big' hotel chains and that's what made our stay so special here. The service was outstanding the whole visit through. Ben gave us an excellent place to have a delicious breakfast, in one of the little laneways near Flinders Station. All the staff were friendly and answered all our questions happily. The location was perfect, walking distance to many major city attractions and the free City Tram departs out the front to take you on a tour around the lovely city. I advise getting a Queen Deluxe Superior Room on the upper levels, as these are the ones with a gorgeous view of Melbourne. The other rooms seem to have no view at all (only of a carpark). It was so nice to wake up to the sight of a tram whizzing by on the streets below. The fireplace and snooker table located on the ground floor, added warmth to the hotel and the extra comfy longes with beautiful cushions were a welcome treat after a day of walking around the city streets. The bed was soft and comfortable and the bathroom had such lovely big mirrors. The wooden floorboards throughout the building add a rustic feel and charm to the hotel. The entrance door is really something else! Room service meals were scrumptious too. Don't bother coming if you want a gym, swimmming pool and all that jazz. This is more of a hotel to relax and chill out and use as a base for exploring Melbourne city. Highly recommended for a winter getaway, personal and friendly service and a cosy place to stay. We will be back.

Overall, I love the Hotel Lindrum and have stayed about 5 times. The staff, location and ambience make it a great place to stay. A good choice if you like something a bit more individual and find the major chain hotels soul-less. But I had a couple of disappointments this time.

There was a very noisy function on Friday evening that went beyond 12.30am and the noise floats right up from the lobby stairwell. We were not forewarned, although staff were very apologetic the next day, and assured us it was unusual.

I first stayed here about 8 years ago, and now the rooms are showing a bit of wear: spare blanket, curtains, and carpet had stains, a peanut lurking in the corner, bedside lights not functioning... and upkeep issues e.g. slack cleaning of bath and sink during stay. The breakfast buffet was ravaged on Friday and Saturday. The dining room wall looked as though someone had had a food fight. Small things, but the Lindrum used to excel at those small things.

However, the staff are fantastic. They quickly rectified the things I mentioned to them (like the lights), and are friendly and professional. The cosy bar with the fire is a great place for a glass of wine. And the hotel location is ideal with access to the cool end of Melbourne, and close to trams, train stations, MCG and NGV.

So maybe stay in a deluxe room, request a room away from the stairwell, and overlook the peanut in the corner.
