We have stayed here twice lately in the deluxe king room. Love the rooms, beds TV and shower. Position is a touch out of the way for shopping.
Parking at $50 is outrageous (if you are staying on a weekend just self park at a nearby parking station for $10) Breakfast ordinary and way overpriced - also not sure about the cold atmosphere of the public areas - not at all cosy in the winter.

We have stayed at this hotel years ago when it was called Le Meridian. At the time it was very expensive and luxurious with all the things you would expect for the price.

Last week we stayed again now called InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto and was shocked with what you get for your money.

No decent coffee(Only cheap instant stuff). Tea is the cheapest stuff available.
1 Bathrobe between 2 people.
No toothbrush provided
No bed slippers provided
Drinking water cost an astounding $8.00 per bottle
Beer was also $8.00 per stubbie !

A lot of the things you would expect in a very expensive hotel such as this is no longer considered necessary by this hotel.

I would ensure you ask for what you want before booking a room at this hotel or you may be disappointed.

Everything was perfect, The room, the service, the bathroom and bed. In fact my we wanted to smuggle our kingsize home with us. The most comfortable bed we have ever slept on.
We went for our anniversary and my wifes birthday and were upgraded to a Kingsize deluxe with a bottle of champagne. Having previously visited several years ago, which was great, we were very happy with the new luxurious refurbishment and the service. They even rang before our visit to suggest restaurants- We have decided this is The Melbourne Hotel for us - Period.

This is one of the newest and best hotels in Melbourne. The IC has transformed this iconic building into a work of art. I am a RA and was upgraded to an executive suite on the first floor which equates to the 4th floor in the atrium.

The executive suite had a separate living and bedroom. Room had 2 bathrooms and 3 flat screen TVs. Wifi or cable internet. Well equipped bathroom and minibar.

Breakfast at the restaurant was one of the best buffet breakfast ive ever had in Australia.
The concierge James was great, I thought he was one of the best concierge I've ever experienced. He booked us into an awesome italian restaurant he recommended. In room dinning prices were reasonable but perhaps could be more generous with its portions. Service overall was excellent and although there were some holes, I rate this hotel with a top mark and would highly recommend it to others.

The not so good:
- Due to the design of the hotel, you are most likely to enter your room, close the electric curtains and never see natural light again. Some people might not like this as you would not know what time of the day or what weather it is outside. I didnt mind this and the hotel tries to compromise this by making the room extra cosy- which works.
- Parking was A$50 per night, Internet A$30, In room breakfast was A$44 (per serving)- I thought this was a little steep. If you are arriving after 6pm and leaving before 9am, you can probably save some money by parking on the street without getting booked.

This hotel is truely 5 star and the nicest hotel we have stayed in in Australia. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel special. The service ,food and attention to detail was excellent. Stay here, you will love it. We have stayed at many 5 star hotels, this one tops the lot.

Our first time at a so-called 5star hotel in melb and it didn't disappoint. From the moment we parked out front to the time we left ,we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were lucky we got a "last minute" deal and will be lucky dipping again! Only downside was at 10.30 Sat night, with our "do not disturb" light on, "room service" knocked offering us complimenatry water??!! I was left speechless, something we didn't expect, but not enough damage done to rate this hotel any less.

We visited the hotel for along weekend and included the club lounge. The hotel itself is beautiful. Everything is new and clean - the electric drapes were fun. The staff were fabulous everywhere we went from reception to concierge to the club lounge. This is our favorite hotel in Melbourne without a doubt. It is close to everything with the tram right outside the door. Our room was quiet and cosy. We did not have one negative thing to say. The club lounge is worth the extra money

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Celebrated as one of the world’s hottest and best new hotels by both Conde Nast Traveler and Wallpaper* magazines, InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto is a fascinating example of the city’s fusion of old and new. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto represents the resurrection of one of the city’s last remaining examples of 19th Century Victorian Gothic architecture into a timeless and inspiring luxury hotel. Its city centre location on Collins Street is at the heart of the laneways, attractions and experiences that give Melbourne its international appeal. Behind the Gothic façade is a sleek yet intimate hotel that is home to two very different bars – the Bluestone Wine Lounge and the Market Lane Bar – and a variety of dining establishments, including Alluvial Restaurant and Guy Grossi’s exciting new venture, Merchant. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto has also teamed up with Shannon Bennett, providing valet parking for his new Vue de monde restaurant on the 55th floor of the adjacent Rialto building. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto’s warmth and exceptional service belies its size, with more than 250 guest rooms across two soaring wings, including a stunning collection of suites as well as the exclusive Club InterContinental lounge and facilities for premium guests. The hotel’s rooftop is also a destination itself, home to the kitchen’s own market garden and beehives, the Scandinavian-inspired swimming pool and the glass-encased fitness centre overlooking the Melbourne cityscape. Also available is the luxurious candle-lit East Day Spa offering east-meets-west treatments and therapies. Before guests arrive, they can take advantage of the concierges’ passion and Insider knowledge of the city. Chief Concierge, James Ridenour and his team are the key to authentic experiences of the real Melbourne and everything the city has to offer. ... more   less
