“My Melbourne Experience”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2011

We booked the Kingsgate from the Accor site and used a free night for the accomodation. The web page showed the rooms as being spacious and modern. On arriving the service to check us in was slow and the convenience of travelling with a car was very poor. When we got to the rooms they were very basic, yes clean but certainly not what we expected. The room was noisy due to airconditioning units outside the window making noise and this meant that our sleep was interrupted.
I had to go to collect my daughter from the Melbourne airport late at night and on leaving the hotel I checked with the night clerk if my car would be ok parked on the street in front of the hotel overnight. I had checked the parking signs and although, very busy signs with lots of different instructions on them, thought it looked ok up till 7.30 am in the morning. The Night clerk confirmed my interpretation that I would need to put money in the meter at or before 7.30am. We were travelling to Tasmania on the Sprit of Tasmania in the morning and hence were not keen to have the car parked in the provided parking station some 700 meters away. On going down to put some bags in the car at around 7.15 am, my car was in the process of being towed away as one of the many messages on the sign indicated that the road was a clearway from 6.30 am. I would have thought that the Hotel staff would have known this and advised me not to park there, particularly since I asked. Some $450 later my free night became a very expensive night, fortunately we just made the ferry.

This Hotel has no parking available. The nearest parking is a 10minute walk from the hotel
Directly outside the hotel is a Clear Zone so you can't even park there whilst you book in. I wasn't made aware of this by Hotel Staf and subsequently had my car toad away. $322.00 later!!!!!!!. it's really just a ridiculous situation.
Try to avoid this hotel.

We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms (Level 3) on New Year's Eve 2010. The room was booked online for around $100 AUD, a bargain for NYE. Check-in was fast and easy.

The room was smaller than average, but clean. Bed was comfortable, and bathroom was fine. Room had a mini fridge, tea/coffee and a kettle, good air-con and a large flatscreen TV. No hairdryer. If you are a light sleeper, you may need to bring earplugs, as the doors shut quite heavily.

Breakfast is served from 7-10am. Very average continental b'fast - toast, cereals, juice, fruit and yoghurt. Location is excellent for getting around the city.

Basically, this is a budget hotel. If you get a good price, then it is good value for accommodation in the CBD.
