“Suggest you ask to see room first”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2011

Tried to make an old heritage building look modern without success. We had not booked accommodation for our last 2 nights and after trying a number of hotels with no success we were directed to this one... The guy on reception made a big fuss about juggling things around to fit us in for nights and as it was late, we were desperate we had no choice Our room was a box the only window was high up and would not fully close. It opened into a little alley that housed all the air con units of the surrounding buildings that had an unbearable drone. Luckily for my husband he is half deaf and managed to get to sleep on the bed under the window but I found it unbearable and spent a sleepless night on the couch on the other side of the room. The dust was thick on the ledge where the air con unit was and on the heater and corners in bathroom. In morning I went down and new staff were on, told them I could not bear to stay another night and wanted to check out. The manager apologised and seemed surprised we were even given that room and immediately offered to upgrade us to a new room at the front of the hotel....why were we not offered this room the night before as it was obviously vacant. 100% improvement.... room was very nice had windows we could see out of and no drone of dozens of air con units! I strongly suggest you ask to look at your room before committing. and stay away from room 635 ! Parking is offsite a couple of blocks away in a pay carpark. Although the staff the 2nd day were much more helpful and did their best to improve things I doubt I would choose to stay there again

Room Tip: Room 601 was a good room

I booked a superior room which was to include a comfortable "double and single bed". When I checked into the hotel I was presented a room with a double bed and the small couch opened out to a single 'sofa bed' made up with linen. Needless to say the room was not 'comfortable' with the couch folded out into the room, and I do not accept the sofa bed qualifies as a room with a comfortable 'single bed'. I complained to management and after some delays was offered another room. No explanation of the sofa bed was given, is that really the Superior Room? A time consuming and frustrating experience. The hot water was not hot either and I suffered a lukewarm shower.

Fantastic location. Close to Spencer Street Station and Etihad Stadium. 10min walk to Bourke St mall and shops. Very quick check-in and reception staff very helpful with transport assistance. Room very clean and bed was very comfortable. No view but didn't expect one. Bit of noise from the neighbours' aircon units. Great set-up with internet and great breakfast room. Would definitely return to this hotel.

If you need good value accommodation during your holiday that is close to all Melbourne's amenities, this is the one for you. The room is small, but clean. The bathroom is also clean. The colour of the hallway is dark, it makes you feel claustrophobic. I don't know why they chose black and green ... rather strange choice of colours.
