Always used to stay at the Westin in Melbourne. I was booked into the Grand Hyatt on my last trip and as i knew it had a facelift i thought i would give it a try. The renovation is great, lobby is amazing. Food is also pretty good (but not cheap - then again what is in Aust anymore). Cant put my finger on it - but couldnt get as excited about it as i wanted to. Room was very comfortable but maybe my memory ofwhat it used to be is clouding my judgement!

Dear still_call_aust_home
Thank you for your review -we think the lobby looks pretty fantastic, too! When we refurbished, we spent a lot of time thinking about how we could make guests feel at home when they stay with us, so it is good to hear that you found the rooms very comfortable.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Some hotels are rated five star but struggle to live up to that rating. The Grand Hyatt Melbourne does not have that problem; it really is five star in all regards especially the service. I could not fault it: there was no little chocolate something (which you probably don't need anyway) on the pillow when you come in after dinner, but that is hardly a fault.
But if the hotel was all that you might expect at this price and location, breakfast far exceeded expectations and was worth every penny. The restaurant is also a perfect place to have a breakfast meeting, with the design suiting both travellers and business people, groups and singles. Their cousins at the much more famous Canberra Hyatt would do well to take note of the professionalism of the breakfast service in Melbourne.

Had a great stay at the Grand Hyatt melbourne. Courteous staff at check in. Well equipped room with fantastic rooms. Recommend it. Only down side was the aircon was a bit noisy, but really, if the bed wasn't so comfortable, I could have gotten up and adjusted it I'm sure!

Room Tip: Try ang get a top floor room for speccy views

Stayed here on Dec 2nd and 3rd on a Wotif Mystery Deal. Parking and checking in was a breeze. Getting a taxi later on wasn't so easy....we waited 15 minutes before deciding to walk and then hailed one on the way.
Room was large and comfortable....location was very central....handy for dropping off Christmas shopping and then returning to the shops.
Overall a great place to stay.

I treated my two daughters to a shopping trip in Melbourne booking a Wotif Mystery deal and ended up in the Grand Hyatt Melbourne. From the moment we caught a lift up from the car park where a Concierge was starting his shift the exceptional service started. I apologise to this man for not looking at his name tag however he took our bags from the lift even though he had not started work yet. A young man named Brian checked us in and his service was fast efficient and exceptionally friendly. The room was superb. Clean and well serviced with towels and the roll away was already there waiting for us. Towels were missing for the third person but they arrived without us even requesting them whilst we were out shopping.
My 13 year old said she felt so special the whole time we were there. Nothing was too much trouble for your staff. From catching taxis to giving directions they Hyatt staff were 5 star all the way. Thank you for a wonderful true 5 star break. We were spoilt beyond measure and my girls thought it was the best place they had ever stayed. Oh and the beds......and pillows. I understand the saying now "Like sleeping in a cloud" i just didnt want to get out it was so comfortable.

Booked through Wotif as a mystery deal with a great rate and stayed over the weekend with one of my girlfriends.

Staff were all really friendly and helpful as soon as you walk through the doors. The foyer is extremely impressive and you feel like royalty.

We stayed in a twin room on the 16th floor. Not the biggest but it did the trick. Bathroom was a good size though. The room was facing a commercial office building but there is a glimpse of the river.

It is smack bang in the middle of the city and was extremely convenient for what we wanted to do and where we wanted to go.

The downside... The walls are extremely thin. You can hear people in the rooms next door, hear people in the hall way and hear footsteps from the floor above. You can also hear when people are having showers and using their bathroom.

In summary, I probably wouldn't stay here again because of the fact you can hear everything. Its not what I find relaxing especially when I've been out the night before and nursing a hangover.

Dear thewayivydoes,
Thank you for your review and we’re disappointed to hear that despite enjoying so many great features of our hotel, that your experience was marred by the noise levels. It’s definitely feedback that will be passed on to our Operations Team.
We hope you will reconsider staying with us in the future.

Surprised hubby & master 7 a weekend in the city. Book over the phone the day before and received better rate than on wotif. Top of Collins Street location always perfect. Asked for higher floor number & if possible views of Art Centre plus late (2pm) checkout (worth asking every time) & received both. Room spacious for three people & rollaway bed. Great chaise lounge to enjoy views from enormous window plus lounge/table area. Master 7 enjoyed pool & hubby the gym. Staying at the Hyatt is effortless & staff are wonderful with children. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor to enjoy views.
