“Interesting Hotel”
Reviewed March 6, 2012

We stayed at the grand hyatt for 2 nights for our 40th anniversary had read all the reveiws so didnt know what to expect .The place is quite extravagant and it takes a couple of days to find out about everything. check in was OK. our room was up high with views over the city not to bad . All the rooms are much the same but the viewscan be different ie looking over the river and fed square .The room has a large window outlook which is brilliant that u can look out from. The bedroom /lounge area is good and the bathroom is quite oppulant with nice marble design. The whole room was clean and had bathrobes and slippers supplied.. the restaurant and bars are different as collins kitchen took a bit of getting to know ,especially breakfast if you havent been there before we only had 2 days so we hardly got any enjoyment out of it.. the pool /spa /gym was another different set up but we did use them all ..it all takes time.. We were pleasently surprized on our 2nd night when ,after mentoning to a staff member re/ our anniversary we received a bottle of champers/strawberrys/choklate in our room . Thanks to the staff at the front office team. the concierge all staff are helpful if you need them..So overall our stay was quite plesant but as with all 5star hotels it is very expensive...

Dear Cherryle
Thanks for taking the time to comment on Grand Hyatt Melbourne and that you managed to discover all the hotel has to offer. There is an abundance of choice from enjoying fine food at Collins Kitchen and drinks at RU-CO, to trialing the gym and pool, or simply relaxing in your room.
We hope your Anniversary weekend lived up to expectations and that you choose to celebrate many more with us!

Stayed here on 29 February - 5 March 12 (17th floor), the stay overall was great. We travelled as a couple and stayed in a Grand King Room. The view wasn't too great but can't complain. The bed was excellent, good sleep (too good). Bathroom ok. We ordered room service a few times for lunch and breakfast as the weather did not allow us to go out, overall the food was good especially the club sandwich, buttermilk pancakes and waffles. Next, the bar Ru-Co, we had drinks here a few times as the weather wasn't too good. Bar staff are very attentive and well mannered. We also had dinner at Collins Kitchen, we got the seafood platter which we thoroughly enjoyed. You should definitely try the restaurant well worth your money. The last day, we were supposed to check out at 11am but unfortunately my partner was unwell and requested a later checkout, however, reception gave us a half day rate for about $116 to stay till about 6pm which helped us a lot. While checking out, I advised a girl called "Ryan" (on her name tag) to charge the room bill to my other credit card which I handed to her however after checking my statement I noticed that she didn't. That was the only minor hiccup accounted.

Dear Karina_Gav,
You seemed to have experienced typical Melbourne weather during your stay but glad to hear that your indoor Grand Hyatt Melbourne experience was great – there’s a lot to do! Collins Kitchen definitely knows how to cook a sublime meal and RU-CO has a great rich and relaxing atmosphere. We pride ourselves on impeccable service, so it was refreshing to hear that you were well looked after when your partner fell ill.
We hope you come back and visit us again soon.

This is a great hotel in a central city position. I have stayed at this property over 60 times in the last 20 years and, since the last upgrade, it is better than ever. Large well appointed rooms - ask for a corner king - are the norm. Check-in is usually lightning fast as is check-out. Staff are always attentive and accommodating. All in all one of my favourite hotels.

Room Tip: Corner Room

Great hotel and location. The rooms are well appointed and the check in friendly and quick. The hotel has MAGNIFICENT gym facilities a real plus. The gym also has spin classes and general aerobics at times that work for a business schedule.

The only reason the hotel did not get 5 stars is because of the Wi-Fi charge, at these rates it is money grabbing to charge $29 per day for wifi. They also overcharge me at check-out. When queried I was told that the funds would be returned in 5 days time. Nice one Hyatt you have my cash for free for 5 days. Great pity when the staff and hotel are really service centric that the administration is so poor.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have better views

Dear EricJ123,
Thank you for your complimentary comments of our hotel location and our newly redesigned rooms. In particular we’re glad that you thoroughly enjoyed our first-class gym facilities at the City Club Health and Fitness Centre.
We appreciate your frustration regarding the daily internet fee, and are firmly looking into a better solution for our guests in line with market expectations.
We have also shared your dissatisfaction with our Rooms Division, and sincerely apologise for the time lag in rectifying this issue.
We do hope you will consider staying at our hotel again.

I was proposed to at this hotel, and it was a lovely place for it to happen. Great location, such great service, beautiful rooms.

My only grip would be tht overnight parking is expensive.

But if you're after a weekend in Melbourne that is unforgettable and close to all the action, this is the place!

We had a very pleasant 5 night stay at the Hyatt. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the beds very comfy. We had a fantastic view, and the hotel is situated in a great location - easy to walk to places of interest, and the free tourist tram runs fairly close too. The hotel was busy as it was the week before the Australian Open and players were staying here, but the service was still of a high standard - Brian on the desk at night was extremely helpful and courteous. My only gripe was that you have to pay for WiFi - always seems money grabbing these days when you can generally get it for free in cheaper hotels!! However you can go round the corner to one of the many nice cafes etc in Melbourne and use for free - or price of a coffee!!

Dear nlm123
Thank you for your kind review and it rings true that Grand Hyatt Melbourne is lucky to be right in the heart of Melbourne amongst the hustle and bustle. We will most definitely pass on to Brian that his excellent service struck a chord. In terms of Wi-Fi, we hope to implement a better solution in the near future and look forward to seeing you back again next year.

This used to be one of the best places to stay in Melbourne, but no longer. Service in the restaurant is slow, and it took more than an hour for someone to come and fix the remote in my room. Add to that a high tariff, a A$29 daily fee to use the internet, and even a 1.5% surcharge if you pay your bill with a credit card, and you see a hotel that is not great value but which manages to be quite annoying.

Room Tip: The higher the better. The elevators are slow and require a clumsy pass key to operate, but the view...
