“Location, charm and space”
Reviewed February 8, 2010

Location, location, location or location, charm and space would describe this establishment. It is tucked away in Flinders Lane just off Elizabeth Street. This meant that we were centrally located to Flinders Station, Federation Square, the route of the free City Circle Tram etc. We enjoyed this central location during our stay in Melbourne as it meant we could walk around the city area and then drop back in to the hotel for a rest before venturing out again.
Check in was smooth and efficient. There is an elegant sitting area between the reception desk and the lift lobby where daily newspapers are available for guests. The lifts were quickly summoned with the largest lift button we’ve seen!
Our suite was new, spacious and nicely furnished. The kitchenette was useful for our breakfast/supper/snack times…….even Villeroy and Boch plates were provided. There were two televisions in the suite…one in the sitting area and one in the bedroom. The bed was very comfortable. No complaints about the roomy and well ventilated bathroom either.
Our room was serviced daily. We did not notice any noise from the street or our neighbours.
The location and elegance of this establishment would certainly bring us back again.

The apartment I had was a one bedroom with 2 TV's. The sofa also converted into a double bed. The room showed signs of aging however it was clean and roomy for a one bedroom. No laundry facilities in the room - (this was for a fee on another floor). The kitchenette facilities are minimal. The position was great as it is inner city and close to restaurants and shopping. Normally room is around $250 but i had a great deal of $99 so i cant complain. Parking extra but you can come and go as many times as you like. The apartment was on the 4th floor and was quiet. The late check out of 11am and free newspaper was appreciated. I would stay here again as long as it was a good price.

The hotel is “hidden” on a short section of one-way Flinders Lane. It was very basic, adequate, clean, and for us, an excellent “home base” for walking to many sites of interest, good restaurants and unique little pedestrian-only streets lined with restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques. We stayed for a week on a timeshare exchange. The hotel has a parking garage and is very close to the train station and hub of all modes of transportation (some free). Nearby was a fantastic visitors’ center. This is an area for large numbers of young students flocking to nearby trains and eating establishments. We felt very safe walking at night. My husband located a bakery just across the street and went out in the mornings and brought back amazing freshly made pastries.

Wonderful location disappointed that we stayed 5 days and not once had room cleaned. We had to ask at reception what we do with rubbish and was told to put it outside our door we did and it stayed there more than 24 hours. We were in a room with an interconnecting door and the small child next door cried the majority of the time the hotel was full so we could not be moved. The bed was way to soft like a marshmallow ok if u like a soft bed

Oh, my, what a disappointment. A nice room, spacious, modern and clean, but the NOISE - I have never stayed in such a noisy hotel. The neighbour noise (without further explantion) and the street noises continued throughout the night. When we asked to be moved, the reception was casual and unhelpful . The hotel was fully booked. Won't be staying in one of these chain hotels again.

the apartment we stayed in was beautiful, clean and quiet. living room with desk, couch and tv. french doors lead to the bedroom. the lobby and halls were all appointed to a very high standard. the location is also great. walking distance to bars, cafes, and all the sites around melbourne.

unfortunately, the valet, scratched our car while parking it. we were notified by the hotel about the problem before we found it ourselves. the hotel offered to pay for the damage. we had to take time off work to get 2 quotes from repairers. it took several weeks for Accor to approve the quotes and pay the repairer, and we weren't contacted once this was done. we had to chase them up ourselves, at which time we were told we could put the car in to be repaired.

  • Liked — beautiful hotel
  • Disliked — valet crashed our brand new car

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Sebel Melbourne Flinders Lane was completely refurbished in September 2011, when it celebrated its 90th anniversary. The refurbishment design philosophy drew inspiration from the early "fashion house" days with a view of creating an expression of sophisticated elegance, through an individual design concept that would remain unique to The Sebel Melbourne Flinders Lane. The result has turned this "all suite" apartment building into a market leading boutique hotel. Presented is a contemporary range of sophisticated one bedroom suites that infuse modern design philosophies with the architectural and historical heritage of the building. Archival Melbourne scenes are displayed in the black and white artwork that adorn the corridors, evolving into a celebration of Melbourne's modern icons throughout the suites. With the retention of the original detailed cornice and architraves, blended with contemporary designer furniture and fittings and modern state of the art appliances, the change is exceptional. The sophisticated colour palette is the key design element, from charcoal European bathroom tiles, contrasted by the white, chrome and glass designer fixtures to the use of dark veneers, stainless steel, leather and stone throughout the design.New Guest Features include The Courtyard which is a European inspired inner city escape that provides guests with an intimate courtyard garden to share a drink with friends or to simply relax and escape the hustle and bustle of the city. While the days of fashion are well in the past at 321 Flinders Lane, those looking for a fashion experience will not be disappointed with The Sebel Melbourne's Flinders Lane location. Ideally located between Elizabeth and Queen Street, it is in close proximity to Melbourne's shopping, and entertainment district with the added benefit of having Melbourne's famous cafe culture and the iconic Flinders Street Station right around the corner. ... more   less
