“Great location for a city stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

Stayed here on a Saturday overnight with our 2 kids. The location was perfect - plenty of good places to eat nearby and within walking distance of most places.
The suite was smaller than I expected but still a comfortable size. Kids had the sofa bed which was OK for them but wouldn't have been great for adults - they'd have rolled into the middle!!
All in all it was a good stay overnight but

This is the second time over the years we have stayed in these spacious, comfortable apartments and although they have been renovated since our first stay some time ago from a traditional decor to a more contemporary style, they are still very comfortable and with very tasteful and pleasant decor in black, silver and grey. As well as a front lounge where sometimes a fire was lit in late afternoon/early evening, there is another room at the back with lounge/bar with a coffee/tea serve-yourself machine for use during the day. In the evening we found it unable to be used as it needed to be emptied and replenished. The lounge chairs were very comfy there and daily newspapers were supplied. The position in Flinders Lane is perfect for exploring the city. As were were on the top (10th) floor, though it only had a view of office buildings on Flinders Lane, it was so very quiet. We would always stay here if we could get availability.

Room Tip: Top floor was ideal with no noise whatsoever at any time.

I stayed here last week with my wife. I was there for business and she was there for shopping. It was perfect for both of us. There were plenty of restaurants close by, shopping galore and easy for me to get to my appointments.

One thing to be aware of is that they are apartments so you have to make your own bed and the room isn't serviced every day. No problem to us.

The room had plenty of space and was very quiet. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We would certainly recommend this accommodation.

Room Tip: Try Hardware Lane for dinner and a great French cafe for breakfast.

Beautiful suite in perfect central location with wonderful service! Suite has recently been refurbished and is spotless. Shortly after we arrived, hotel staff called to ensure that we were happy with the suite & asked if we needed any assistance in setting up sofa bed (Sofa bed was already beautifully made up with linen but had been folded away). I really couldn't fault this hotel or its staff. Despite being in a central location, it was extremely quiet. Thank you for a wonderful weekend!

This place was perfect for a night away with my husband child free. Everything was in walking distance, just a short stroll to great restaurants and shops. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment that had all the modern comforts you could need and was very spacious. The staff were friendly and parking was easy with the convenience of valet parking. We will diffidently stay again.

As AVC members we have stayed at Flinders Lane previously couple times before renovation and it was getting very tired. Stayed again June 2013 and the renovations have done wonders to make this a fantastic place to stay - easily rating 4-4.5 stars. The 1 Bedroom apartments are large (actually kitchen/dining + lounge + king BR + bathroom) and a great place to return to. Ideally suited for self catering with very modern kitchenette and facilities - many good dining opions for both eat in and takeaway in immediate area.

The Flinders Lane apartments are located just off Elizabeth St and short walk to tram, Coles supermarket, CBD shopping, restaurants and easy stroll to Yarra and South Bank. Location Location.

Hotel parking is expensive ($30/day) and street drop off is difficult. Best to ring ahead and make arrangements with hotel if driving - we found staff helpful on phone and arranged to briefly park check in and then take hire car back. No excuse for Taxi not to drop you off at front door though airport shuttle bus may drop you at corner.

Room Tip: All 1BR+ good, but ones on west side and rear are larger than ones facing Flinders Lane and quieter.

Dear dlf_perth,
Thank you for taking the time to post your review after your stay at Grand Mercure Melbourne Flinders Lane. We are delighted to read that you enjoyed your stay, in particular the refurbishment. As you can imagine a great deal of hard work goes into a refurbishment of this scale. It makes it all the more worthwhile when we receive great feedback from our members. We are sorry to hear that you felt the parking cost was expensive. Parking in CBD Melbourne can be expensive with public car parks charging up to $20.00 per hour depending on the time of arrival. We only charge $30.00 per day and do not restrict the time of arrival or departure. Again, we thank you for your review and look forward to welcoming you again soon.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Sebel Melbourne Flinders Lane was completely refurbished in September 2011, when it celebrated its 90th anniversary. The refurbishment design philosophy drew inspiration from the early "fashion house" days with a view of creating an expression of sophisticated elegance, through an individual design concept that would remain unique to The Sebel Melbourne Flinders Lane. The result has turned this "all suite" apartment building into a market leading boutique hotel. Presented is a contemporary range of sophisticated one bedroom suites that infuse modern design philosophies with the architectural and historical heritage of the building. Archival Melbourne scenes are displayed in the black and white artwork that adorn the corridors, evolving into a celebration of Melbourne's modern icons throughout the suites. With the retention of the original detailed cornice and architraves, blended with contemporary designer furniture and fittings and modern state of the art appliances, the change is exceptional. The sophisticated colour palette is the key design element, from charcoal European bathroom tiles, contrasted by the white, chrome and glass designer fixtures to the use of dark veneers, stainless steel, leather and stone throughout the design.New Guest Features include The Courtyard which is a European inspired inner city escape that provides guests with an intimate courtyard garden to share a drink with friends or to simply relax and escape the hustle and bustle of the city. While the days of fashion are well in the past at 321 Flinders Lane, those looking for a fashion experience will not be disappointed with The Sebel Melbourne's Flinders Lane location. Ideally located between Elizabeth and Queen Street, it is in close proximity to Melbourne's shopping, and entertainment district with the added benefit of having Melbourne's famous cafe culture and the iconic Flinders Street Station right around the corner. ... more   less
