Stayed there for work related travel on a couple of occasions and it is located in a great place with access to many other forms of transport nearby and most CBD locations are a short walk away. I like staying there as the rooms are large with separate living areas that make it feel like home and cooking facilities meaning you are less reliant on eating out. The beds are comfortable, it has a bathroom that is large with a shower and bathtub, and the television has many channels, and it has all the facilities you expect of accommodation of this sort including a well equipped gym.

The service is good, but not brilliant. There are long waits at checkout, which is bizarre as this is primarily a business hotel so checkout times are predictable, so staff allocation should not be a problem. There is no newspaper in the morning, just the little things that make you want to go back and differentiate a good experience from an excellent experience.

I stayed here twice for work. Level 8 facing the coutyard next door and level 4 facing the office across the lane.

Level 8 is definitely better. It was a pleasant room plenty of space and a small kitchenette if you get sick of eating out.

The bathroom has a tub and shower very much appreciated.

I'd stay here again if I needed to be on that side of town. I prefer the spring st end as its closer to the theaters and restaurant.

Room service is prompt. Portions are a little small if you're hungry. Very tasty lamb chops.

The beds are firm and comfortable

Air conditioning works well. The lighting is low a bit annoying if you are trying to work.

I travel to Melbourne on a monthly basis for work and this is one of the corporate arrangements we have. The very first time i arrived at Mantra, i thought "hohum another one of those uncared for hotels". Mantra has had an uplift since that day 4 years ago. The foyer is now more inviting and so is the restaurant. The staff are extremely helpful and remembers your name. There are complimentary PCs in the lobby for you for your occasional email or flight check or Facebook. The room footprint is huge: you don't feel cramped and there is plenty of space and light. Just make sure you get a high floor. I had the misfortune of staying at the second floor and it is almost parallel to street level.

This isn't a glamorous hotel however, the type of clientele (mostly business travellers who choose the location of the court vicinity) means that it is quiet. All the amenities may not be plush but they work and it is clean. The gym is well equipped and the room service menu is reasonably priced.
Only gripe i have is that you have to pay for the wifi. In South East Asia, wifi is free everywhere even in hotels. I guess thats an Aussie problem of connectivity, not so much the hotel problem.
That being said, i would stay here again and again....actually i do. Every month!

Room Tip: Choose a room higher than 4th floor if you can.

My husband and I visited melborne to watch the cricket. We stayed at Mantra for 3 nights and was so happy with the accommodation! We managed to walk everywhere as the hotel is so close to everything. Hardware lane is only a 2min walk down the street and has wonderful cafes. We had a 1 bedroom apartment and it was massive! It had a kitchenette that had a small stovetop, a separate living room and a stylish bathroom. The hotel staff were so helpful, gave us directions and recommendations, and stored our luggage for us as we arrived hours to early for check in. We will most defiantly stay here again! If you keep an eye out on sites such as Wotif you can really pick up a great bargain for this hotel.

Have just stayed one night at the Mantra on Little Bourke and have to say I was pleasantly surprised.Rooms are large with small kitchenette. Our room was clean and quite. While rooms are basically furnished they have everything you need for a very comfortable stay. Rooms have a good size bathroom with a bath and separate shower. The beds are comfortable making for a good nights sleep. Location is really good, close to trams, trains and walking distance to shops cafes restaurants, in fact walking distance to everything in the Cbd. Close to Southern Cross Station, the casino, southbank and all major shops. Breakfast is good especially if included in room price. I wouldn't hesitate staying at the Mantra again.

We stayed here for a short getaway break. It was perfect for our needs. It is close to everything - literally. You can walk in one direction and be quickly at the Southern Cross Station for regional trains Walk the other direction and head for the Queen Vic Markets. Yet another direction will land you in the CBD proper and the fainl direction will get you to the Flinders Street Station.

Plenty of tram stops nearby in all directions to get you about the place.

Heaps of cafes and restaurants (head down to Hardware Lane of an evening!)

The staff were helpful and friendly and accommodating. Rooms are comfortable - nothing flashy, but roomy, well equipped and also plenty of space in the bathroom (always a plus!). Separate bath as well.

We will definitely go back here :)

Our second stay here..we are 6 ladies, we had two adjoining rooms. (Many hotels don't cater for 6 sharing.) Very happy with room..spacious, quiet at night and location is handy to trams, walkable to shops, restaurants, flinders and spencer st. The in-house restaurant we consider to be excellent for breakfast and lunch. Havent eaten dinner there. Interesting menu and servings are tasty and adequate. Room service meals are available from a nearby restaurant. Desk staff were friendly and very helpful. Recommend attractions: Hardware Lane, colonial tramcar restaurant, QVB shopping centre in Lonsdale, Chapel st for retail therapy, the Australian Tennis Open! Self guided walk Alleys and Laneways of Melbourne.

Room Tip: The higher you are, the more light there is in the morning.
