1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2010

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights . I found that the carpet outside the bathroom was wet and gave a moldy smell. I complained it to the front desk and was told they were fully booked and there was no way to change it to the new one. So I have to open the window to get rid of the smell. The room and the bathroom was not cleaned properly and it reached the peak on the last day when the room was not even cleaned .I will not recommend this hotel to anyone

I stayed here recently during a weekend in Melbourne.
Shortly after checking-in we realised a group of men had the room next to us, and as the walls are quite thin it was quite loud and it seemed like they were going to party all night.
However after I called down to reception and asked to change rooms, the reception staff and duty manager were very efficient and let us change rooms promptly. It was most appreciated that since I wasn't looking to have a late night that the staff allowed us to move to avoid any further disruption during our stay.
The hotel is in a handy location directly opposite Albert Park and only a $9 cab ride away from restaurants and shops along Chapel Street.
Also to avoid paying the $16 plus it costs to park in their carpark, we just parked in a side street as we managed to find a park that was free on weekends.
Am glad we changed rooms as I saw the group of men in the lobby when we were checking out - they were still drinking at 11am!

Stayed here 3 nights for a conference. What struck me was the service. It was exceptional, and sustained, it never struck a bad note, not once. It was attentive, friendly, excellent and sustained. Our conference was for about 200 people over 2 days, and their attention to allergy issues was fantastic. Plus the food throughout was unusually good, especially the sweet things. They clearly have a very good pastrychef on staff.

The rooms are all different, from speaking to my colleagues. Mine was spacious and comfy, bathroom was huge. Bathrobes and slippers were nice! It's a shame they do the usual aussie hotel thing of soaking people for internet access.. who will be the first to stop this? And it was quiet. Gosh that is a good thing in a hotel. Plenty of traffic outside but inside one's room, you weren't hearing anything from your neighbours or other floors.

It's quite a spectacular hotel, well designed, but you feel comfortable there and not intimidated. I think the staff make the difference there. The guys who do the driveway, porters I guess, are brilliant. Helpful, funny, expert, very memorable.

I want to stay there again.

Right from the word go the staff were very friendly & helpful. Our room was a lakeview room which was a nice surprise as I had not booked one but the view was brilliant. Very clean and a nice size.
The staff were always helpful and quick to respond to any queries.
The breakfast was delicious if not a little pricey! But because it was so good they were forgiven a little.
Nice leisurely check out at 11am was nice.
Will stay again for sure as its location is absolutely super, so close to the CBD & St Kilda. The staff were brilliant and considering its on a main road the noise levels were not to bad.
Also thanks to Andy for the recommendation of were to eat, you know your food.

Having travelled for work purpose I did not choose this hotel, but expected that as it was the Sebel and rated as 4 stars that it would be fine. Big mistake. Having stayed for a total of a month, the food has varied in quality. The first week all my breakfasts were delivered ice cold, the second week they were good and the last two weeks were terrible. One morning my banana porridge with brown sugar was delivered without milk, brown sugar or banana. The bread was consistently so water logged that it was disentegrating on the plate. Room service menus were not left in the room, towels were dumped on the vanity
and wine glasses were not replaced with clean ones.
The heating did not work the entire stay and the first week the air conditioning was stuck on full ball.
The staff whilst friendly were not helpful and instisted on refering to me as madam.
The meals are grossly overpriced and the restraunt staff often rude and forgetful.
I would never ever attend this hotel and it is unlikely that I would even stay at any other Sebel hotel

This is a good quality hotel focussing on providing accommodation for business travellers.

There are two levels of accommodation available- the more upmarket Sebel, and the value conscious Citigate. Both levels of accommodation are provided in the same building.

The Sebel offers spacious and comfortable rooms, many of which have been renovated. I recommend you request a room which overlooks Albert Park for a better view. (During the Melbourne Grand Prix, these rooms overlook the track).

The service is professional, courteous and helpful, including a concierge and a helpful doorman.

The hotel offers businesslike value for money. It is ideal for the business traveller who needs to work in the vicinity of the hotel. It is located just outside of the CBD of Melbourne- convenient for business offices situated on St Kilda Road.

The tram is a short stroll away- you can ride into Melbourne or in the other direction to St Kilda beach. The adjacent Albert Park also provides a pleasant opportunity for a stroll.

There is a restaurant offering buffet breakfast (good quality) and dinner (buffet on weekends), as well as a coffee lounge (convenient for informal meetings and light lunches) and a cocktail lounge/ bar.

This is a good hotel for the business traveller.

This was the first time we stayed at the Sebel and it was brilliant. The conciege and front desk were really helpful in suggesting good restaurants, and places to go. Beautiful quiet hotel just out of the main part of the city.

The rooms were really large and beds comfortable and the room service menu was a bit more exciting than you find in most hotels. The front desk organised some massages with Ripple for us and they were great also.

Would definitely stay here again just for the service alone.
