“Not fancy, but good value”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

Stayed here on a recent trip to Melbourne with my sister. The room was basic but fine, excellent hot water/water pressure. We didn't go on holiday to sit around in our room! The location is fantastic, you can easily walk to a lot of good touristy things and are in the middle of town for shops and restaurants.
We found the staff to be really lovely and helpful and our one complaint was quickly dealt with above and beyond what we expected.
The lifts were a bit unreliable, but even though we were on the 12th floor we had no problems-never took the stairs and wouldn't have waited more than 5 minutes for a lift.

We thought it was excellent value for money and would stay there again.

Stayed here over a weekend. Nice and clean hotel as were the rooms but the rooms are very small and the ensuite even smaller. Very hard to get 2 people into the ensuite. The walls are also paper thin. You could hear everything going on next door. We had some sort of alarm going off next to us that went on untill the early hours of the morning. There is no view outside your window unless you like alley ways. Location is fantastic, right in the middle of the CBD and close to all resturants and transport. For the price which is cheap, I could get a better room at another hotel in the CBD.
We will try something different next time.

This hotel is getting a little old now, so the rooms have a bit of a tired feeling to them. There is also quite a bit of construction going on in and around the area making it a little noisy during the day. Also each floor tends to have a vending machine in the foyer area which is already a little tight on space and nosiy if you are in the room next to it which we were. As one lift was being refurbished whilst we were there, having on one lift did slow things down somewhat. The staff were lovely and friendly and the great thing in each room was that you had a kitchenette - a kettle, microwave, toaster, tea coffee etc supplies and sink facilities. Another positive was the free breakfast for under 16's if you are eating in the restaurant, also the location which is pretty central and walking distance to most places. The negatives, apart from construction etc mentioned, was the "add ons". You need to pay for wi-fi in your room and to use the pool (in the adjoining Mercure - Swanston). In this day and age, I have come to expect wi-fi as a complimentary service.

We got this hotel at a really cheap price so were happy with the choice. It has a great location just half a block from the mall. We booked 2 rooms - one with 2 singles and one with a double/queen. When we arrived at check in we were told we could have those rooms now or wait an hour and be upgraded, so we chose to wait. Well not sure what the upgrade was as we got the exact rooms we had booked (except they had checked each group into the wrong room which wasnt great). Anyway apart from that the rooms were good - spacious and clean. Bathroom was a good size too. The biggest downfall of the hotel was only 1 lift working and it was a VERY slow lift. My friend went to get a juice from across the road and it took her 10 mins each time just to use the lift. Almost unexcuseable to have this going on on a weekend (especially with such big events in the city at that time so the hotel was very full). Anyway all in all the hotel is a good 3 star hotel, an extra star for the fantastic location for exploring and getting around the city.

They booked us in for the wrong weekend!!! I could of stayed the saturday night of a cost of $500 NO cheeper for there stuff up... But they would of had to move people around to fit us in... Which sounded to be a BIG hassle for them... We stayed the sunday night and i went to use a face washer which i found to have blood on it!!! We was meant to have a free breakfast which we never got... i've stayed there before and never had a problem but im afraid that i will not be staying there again... And i will be letting my Tasmanian friends NOT to stay there either!!! One very unhappy guest!!!!!
