“Mercure Minus”

Having stayed at the Mercure Sydney this was disappointing, it's important to say the staff were brilliant, all aspects from the front desk to the porters who helped out with enthusiasm, the valet parking was effortless and the location was great next to China town. The rooms were the let down, shabby, small, I would describe it as a "back packers" type accommodation and not the Image expected from a Mercure brand. A refurbishment is badly needed .

With trams at your door and a great spot for exploring you could forgive the bad decor, old amenities such as the fridge that made so much noise we had to turn it off, mould in bathroom and dirty walls. Staff were nice, so we put it down to part of a new Melbourne adventure.

Great location was the reason we stayed here. The room was very small but clean. Walls very thin, we could hear everything happening in adjacent rooms, from toilet functions to sex occurring. Seems to be more for young people whom partied most of night and kept us awake most nights when returning back at all hours. Basically not sound proof rooms.
We would not stay at the Welcome again as we are an older couple and like our sleep.
restaurant great and staff very helpful.

The room (Queen) was a bit cramped but had all that was required and fittingd were of high quality. The location and service could not be faulted. We booked this room on a special offer and as value for money it was fantastic. Will stay here again as very convenient.

Standard rooms very small and havina a quite sleep imposible. I could here lift, noise from other rooms. Location ok. DO not use any parking service they offer, you can find much cheaper in many places in the city.

Positives:
Central location
Good value bars and food
Large area on ground floor with pokies and bar
Clean rooms with crisp sheets
Helpful staff
Negatives:
Tiny rooms
Could hear everything, and with pipes above the bed, every time someone used water it rushed past us and woke us up.
We are an Accor member, and we would have liked to have been offered an upgrade to a bigger room (we would have happily paid for it), as we have been offered in other hotels being a member of their group. There is no benefit being a member with this one.
Tiny bathroom
No where to put anything.
Room looked out onto a concrete wall.
Luckily we were only there during the evening/night, otherwise it would have been awful

You basically get what you pay for , and for the cost in Melbournes CBD it was great value.
We would stay again, but try and make sure that we get a room that is bigger, and maybe facing at least the front of the building.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with the king sized bed, they are larger.
