The Grand Mecure was a great place to stay while visiting the city's Christmas sights. Breakfast was great, and the staff very helpful

This hotel is next to China town and is in a very busy area. The reception and concierge staff were very helpful and were able to answer any queries. However they gave us room 303 which is next to the small gym. This immediately caused a problem from the constant drumming of the machines. We asked to be moved which they did willingly & put us in 211. Unfortunately every morning around 6-6.30am a door was slammed several times, this was probably due to staff coming into work directly underneath us. There is a cafe adjoining the hotel which is also open to the public and leads onto a casino. The cafe is adequate, although one night whilst in the hotel lounge above we ordered a pizza which was not at all good, they were on the verge of closing so that didn't help. Incidently the barman closes the bar at around 10:30pm ??
Breakfast can be hectic Saturday and Sunday in particular and as they are more expensive to stay would seem alittle unfair. Breakfast menu is exactly the same every morning, fruit/cereal/bacon/eggs/beans/tomatoes/hash browns etc. not very adventurous but filling.
All in all we enjoyed our stay and it is very easy to get to shops, and other attractions with the public transport or walking, there are plenty of shops straight outside the hotel.
Just try to avoid the two rooms mentioned and you will get a good nights sleep.
I've rated this average but I would say it's between average and v.good

On arrival the staff we friendly and helpful which continue right to the time fo leaving with directions on the best way to travel to the zoo. Even though we had adjoining rooms with our extended family with young children the rooms were comfortable and quiet.

Brilliant hotel on the doorstep of the hub of Melbourne. Trams seconds away, cafes everywhere, China Town restaurants across the road. Pleasan, helpful staff. Comfortable beds, fresh linen, beautiful bathroom. What more could you want!

Great location, walking distance to everything, trams at your doorstep. Good city view from room. Had two inter-connecting rooms because of children....very convenient. Lovely buffet breakfast. Friendly and helpful service. Good value. I'll definitely stay there again.
