We stayed at The Swanston and were really surprised and impressed. The rooms were clean, comfortable and have been updated. The location was fantastic - right in the middle of the shopping hub. The staff were very friendly and helped with directions and recommendations. we will definately go back.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights last month, We had been led to believe Grand Mercure brand was one of Accors premium brands but were disppointed . We are members of the Accor Advantage and frequently use Accor hotels but while this hotel is well located if you want inner city and shopping the rooms are not up to 4 star standard, perhaps 3 star maybe. The reception is a mess with check in located in the middle of a walkway and people bags and confusion everywhere. The restaurant and bar are only average. The rooms have been re furbished it appears but every thing looks cheap and falling apart.

Average room, bathroom door cannot be locked! Same set of breakfast every morning! More suitable for honeymooners or couples but definitely unsuitable for those with family members or friends staying in the same room.

Great location right in the heart of town. Large spacious rooms and the most comfortable bed that I have slept in in many months !! The staff could not do any more to be of assistance. Cocoon Bar was a fantastic bar to meet up with friends before we headed out for dinner and the 'create your own happy hour' voucher was an added bonus ! Will definately be staying again !!

We have been staying here since we found it. (Initially we did stay twice at The Rydges on Swanston street which was a bit away from the city center, a few years back). The location of the hotel is fantastic, and is close to all the major shops in Melbourne including David Jones, Melbourne Central and Myer. There are all sorts of eateries next to the hotel. So dinner and lunch are no problem at all. Included breakfast is good. Best to get an all inclusive deal with breakfast for the family. Hotel is clean, carpets are good. The double deluxe rooms are quite spacious. There is a rooftop swimming pool and a gym. There is the Mercure hotel attached to this hotel (another wing), which I would not recommend if you can stay in the grand Mercure Swanston hotel for 50 dollars extra.
Overall an excellent hotel. We have stayed here atleast close to a dozen times and would highly recommend this.

Stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. Lovely big room with sitting area and mini kitchen area. The hotel was situated in the middle of a busy main shopping area which was great, close to all main attractions and the train station. Trams just outside the door and plenty of retaurants to choose from. The trouble with the area happened in the evening the area became quite seedy with drunks and homeless people hanging around. Not suitable for young children.
