“Staff was wonderful, hotel was noisy”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

We stayed at the Swanston Hotel for three nights. The check in, and concierge service, as well as all of the front desk people were top notch. The room was a little old, the bathroom door would not stay open, and the walls were very thin. We could hear our neighbors conversations. The street noise from our room was a little obnoxious, especially the evening when we had to check out early and there was a street band.
This hotel is centrally located and in walking distance of most of the sights of Melbourne. The trolley and tram are located close as well.

Dear Idederer,

Thank you for your review, we appreciate your feedback.

I have passed on your feedback to our Maintenance Manager for his attention. Regarding the busker's noise from the street, should you have advised our Duty Manager, we would have been able to ask them to move further away from the hotel.

Indeed, the location of the hotel would have been one of the greatest advantages of your stay, with all the major tourist attractions, transports & shopping at your doorstep.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel.

Kind regards,

Alex Mihardja, Operational Project Manager

I have stayed here several times on business due to the central location and easy access to public transport. While staff are pleasant and helpful it would be nice to acknowledge return visitors. Every visit is treated as though it is my first, which is disappointing. While the rooms have been refurbished in recent times, the last room I stayed in had what looked like the original plumbing from the 1980s when the building was constructed. However, if you don't mind standing in a yellowing bath tub to shower this won't be a problem. Breakfast is good value at $18 for a buffet. Not sure whether I will stay here again as the hotel appears to be unable to match some of the bargains that are often offered by high quality hotels in the city. The other disincentive is the lack of free wifi. Hotels need to realise that this is an essential service that is highly valued by this traveller.

I spent there 4 nights on a business trip in last December.
The best point is the location, it's in the middle of everything. Walking distance from bars/restaurants on the riverside, as well as from the bothanical garden.
However it's in a busy area the rooms are quiet and good to sleep. Unfortunatelly the gym is small, but still enough.
The service is excellent - we even received a breakfast box, because left before breakfast time...
The negative point is, that internet service is not included in room fee.
Will choose it again in Melbourne.

I am glad to hear that you enjoyed our fantastic location, as it is ideal for interstate and overseas visitors wanting to explore Melbourne in a short amount of time.
