“Prime location makes this hotel a good choice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2013

This is my second stay at this hotel and this time the room I was put in was not as spacious as last time. However the room was adequate and had two double beds, which made it preferable to a lot of the twinshare options I looked at in the CBD, most with two single beds.

It's hard to fault this hotel because they get the basics right. Location is, as most people have pointed out, excellent and you will be able to walk around the CBD with ease. You're perched right on Bourke Street Mall if shopping is your thing, with Chinatown nearby. We were in town for a wedding and came back to the hotel late on a couple of occasions - however security seemed tight enough.

This is not a hotel that will win any design awards and it's true that it is looking a little bedraggled in places, but if you are looking for a value option then I'd recommend this hotel.

This is not the first time I have stayed at this hotel - the location draws me back. The room was spacious and more than adequate, and the bed very comfortable. The staff were more than happy to help with any queries. The rate is a bit on the high side, but then that's Melbourne. I will continue to keep coming back.

Last minute reservation was handled in minutes. The check in staff was great! In room amenities were great! Coffee, teas and cookies. Nice irons, kettles and shower head. The room was spacious clean and quiet! Awesome down town location adjacent to everything! Busy check out was handled with efficiency, humor and accuracy!

I stayed at the Grand Mecure in September 2012. My stay was not memorable, see my September review. However, this time around I was put in room 1010, this was an excellent room. Separate lounge, bed room and bath room. The service was good as it was previously. The bar and breakfast are good. The location of the Hotel is great, central for everything. On reflection will stay again, it's currently 1. - 1 in the great, poor stakes!

Room Tip: Swanson street is one way due to tram lines, check you map. The Hptel hastening but it is $30 a nigh...

Apart from one reception staff member who sent us to a room already occupied (to the alarm of the occupant!), the staff were excellent but the hotel itself was rather tired, we thought. The location made up for it, being very central and convenient and the staff were diligently sweeping the leaves and grit etc constantly blowing in the doors. The pool and gym were very good but overall the hotel felt a little tired and needed some light and airiness in the decor etc.
