The hotel is in a great position within walking distance to all the CBD attractions and fantastic restaurants. Our suite was roomy and the staff were always pleasant . However, on the down side, the buskers music from the streets until 3.00am Friday and Saturday morning was a bit hard to handle.

Reasonable hotel right in the heart of tourist Melbourne. We stayed in a room overlooking Swanston St on level 13. The room was clean & comfortable although some of the common areas near the lifts are starting to show some age. Friendly staff at the reception & a nice cafe downstairs. If you stay here, bring along some earplugs as it gets pretty noisy on the streets below during the night.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the Little Bourke St are quieter but the current view is a big hole in the ground due t...

Stayed in Executive suite on 12th Floor - we were impressed with the room and the amenities, Liked especially that we could open the window; that we had two televisons (football on one of course!); that there was a microwave; and the at the cleanliness could not be faulted. Bed was very comfortable, too.

Haigh's chocolates in the lobby; the "Black Opal" gaming venue on the ground floor; the remarkable good value for the buffet breakfast in Louden's - all these were extra surprises.

Almost part of China Town; confusing to gain entry until we realised that we needed to drive down Little Bourke Street.

Only slightly negative comment is that the outside noise could be quite clearly heard in the wee hours - but that's OK, we are in a city after all.

Room Tip: Reccommend an executive suite for the space and amenities.

While the Hotel had mostly great service, high quality rooms and bars the neighbouring construction let it down. I stayed two nights and on both nights was woken at 4am by sledge hammers hitting metal, cars, trucks and machinery honking horns and then of coarse the beeping of the reversing vehicles. This was then complimented by the yelling of the workers and what sounded like an argument which started with horns honking repeatedly and becoming a verbal debate over access to the worksite.

Just as dissatisfying was the slight gastro caused by one of the meals I ate there. I ate all breakfasts and dinners at the Hotel and opted to try different options in the hope for improvement but was terribly incorrect with every meal being just as off putting. The food was pre-prepared and every meal I had was overpriced and lacking quality, taste or ingredients as identified on the menu.

However, the service was great throughout the Hotel and the best interaction and service came from the Cocoon staff. The only downfall in service came when checking out and I was merely asked for my room number and then for the money to pay the bill - nothing friendly or interactive, no questions about my stay or if I needed a taxi - I was almost waiting for the bloke to come around the counter and drag me out the door.

:(

Stayed here for 3 nights on a visit to Melbourne to see Agatha Christie's play The Mousetrap which was just up the road at the Comedy Theatre. We had an executive suite on the 10th floor and had a great time. The suite had a separate bedroom, lounge and dinning area, there was also a fair size desk, great for using our laptop, WiFi was included in the cost of the package, as was the full buffet breakfast in the Louden Kitchen & Grill. The bedroom had a very comfortable king size bed, wall TV and a wardrobe, also a big window. The lounge/dinning area had a lounge and a couple of chairs, dinning table & 2 chairs plus a work desk near another big window, with plenty of room to move about, also a large TV on a unit incorporating fridge, tea, coffee, microwave, kettle etc. The room was air.con. so no problems winter or summer. The Louden Kitchen & Grill is in the Swanston Welcome hotel next door but there is a walk through corridor joining both hotels, there is a bar area and gaming venue too. This is a great location to stay for City life, Chinatown just across the road, shopping and trams at the door to everywhere you could want to go. The only downside is the huge building site almost next door with a fair amount of noise from 7am each day and this will be there for some time to come.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a room & breakfast package deal
