Stayed for 3 nights in September for a footy trip with my mum. Got a good online deal for a room with two double beds at reasonably short notice. Fab location, just around the corner from Bourke Street Mall and across the road from Chinatown and other great restaurants. Rooms are a little dated but everything was neat and tidy and clean.

The Swanston is getting a bit tired and looking its age but fo tthe price an location you really can't go wrong with this hotel. Buffet breakfast boring but downstairs in the soul cafe there is a la carte to choose from which which great.

Stayed here for 3 nights in March, got a pretty competitive rate. Rooms are a good size but could do with some updating. Chips and holes in walls had been plastered over but not painted so looked basic in parts. Rooms facing onto Swanston St can be pretty noisy without the air conditioning on. Pool is really not worth bothering with, I've seen bigger jacuzzi's! Always a queue for reception, there were simply not enough staff. The location, however, is perfect. Trams stop right outside, Bourke St is just around the corner and Federation Square is less than 5 minutes away. Don't be fooled by the fact you stay in a 'Suite' - there are better deals to be had out there at other hotels.

The Swanston Grand Mecure delivered excellent service, extremely well trained courteous staff and the luggage storage facilities were run by two very helpful staff who ran it like a well oiled machine. We had our car valet parked and it was waiting for us upon checking out. The only negative comments are with our experience at the Louden restaurant where we dined on a busy Saturday night. The lights went from mood lighting to eye blinking full on at 9.45pm and at 10am we were virtually asked to leave as they wished to close.......not a positive experience at all. Overall the hotel was excellent and in the best location one could wish for.
