Owner description: The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is Australia's largest, oldest and most popular sporting venue. The MCG has hosted plenty of international cricket, including the first-ever Test and the 1992 World Cup final, countless VFL/AFL Grand Finals, the 1956 Olympic Games and 2006 Commonwealth Games. It also hosted the final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Other sporting spectacles include FIFA World Cup soccer qualifiers, rugby league home and away matches and State of Origin and international rugby union clashes. Apart from its sporting events, the MCG has also witnessed many blockbuster music concerts, and even Pope John Paul II held a mass there when he visited Melbourne in 1986. The MCG has a total capacity of 100,024 people, comprising 95,024 seats and 5000 standing room spaces. The stadium also houses the National Sports Museum, which includes some of the most priceless pieces of memorabilia in Australian sporting history.

“A tad impressive”
Reviewed January 6, 2013 via mobile

We went for an evening 20/20 game, the Stars v the Renegades. There was a record crowd for this competition (about 46,000) and the place still looked half empty. We were in the upper tier and the view was still great. It's a fantastic venue but the traffic was a nightmare. Leave plenty of time to get there and to leave after a game.

Thank 1adder

“A great sporting stadium.”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

A great place to visit if you are interested in sport. Over the years the ground has hosted a number of sporting events including aussie rules, cricket, rugby, the 1956 Olympics, the commonwealth games to name but a few. The sports gallery is worth a visit but best of all is to visit on a day when the stadium is filled to capacity to watch a sporting event. It is thrilling with a crowd of 100,000 or so.

Simply the best cricket ground I have been to. I have been to a number of cricket grounds and this is certainly my favourite - although Australia 98 all out on Boxing Day probably helps that. Great atmosphere and great facilities. The museum and tour are well worth doing - it's not all about cricket so even if you're not a massive cricket fan it is still worth it. The tour is great - the guides are basically retired members doing it not for payment but for the love of the place and their passion certainly comes across. Our tour guide (Bill) is so passionate about the place he even took us on a tour of the underground car park!

“Must See”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

Think of the MCG as like the heart of Victoria, most may not agree, but if you're a tourist you should really go and have a look. Most people go there to watch sports and it's nice if you want some time to let go and relax. You can also buy memberships, many people go there often to cheer on there favourite teams or hang out with friends.

The time depends on what you're watching unless you're just having a look and taking some photos, if so it won't take long (unless you want to look at the museam).

“Another stadium”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

There is no other place to be to watch a one day cricket match. If people visit during the AFL football season, it is worth a catching a game of Aussie rules football
