Owner description: St Paul's Anglican Cathedral is a beautiful, historic building, situated in the centre of the City of Melbourne, Australia. It is a place of worship and prayer. St Paul's is built on the site where the first public Christian services in Melbourne were led by Dr Alexander Thomson in 1836. Soon afterwards a small wooden chapel was built elsewhere, and the area became a corn market until 1848, when it was made available for the building of the bluestone St Paul's Parish Church. Consecrated in 1852, this Church was used until 1885, when it was demolished to make way for the present Cathedral. The decision to build on the site of the existing church was made because of its proximity to the railway and soon to be completed cable tramway service. The Swanston Street and Flinders Street corner remains one of Melbourne's busiest intersections today, ensuring the Cathedral is a place at the heart of city life.

This cathedral was wonderful and since we were staying a five minute walk away I visited everyday. The choir was incredible as well. Well worth the visit. Plus they have an outreach centre for refugees which I fully support.

It's a beautiful building inside with the different stain glass windows, wonderful wood work. The outside the cathedral there are some benches to sit , very nice atmosphere.

This cathedral is worthy of a visit even if your not religious. The enormity of the structure is amazing along with the lead lighting in the windows and history and events that have taken place there.

The church holds regular services a few times a week, but the church is also used for other things too, at times as a music performance venue. I have to say the acoustics make any live act here sound amazing.

The size and beauty of the cathedral and it's location draws the crowds! The interior is beautiful with lots of lovely stained glass, mosaic floor and large organ. The steps are a nice spot to people watch! There is a small charge to take interior photos.
