Owner description: St Paul's Anglican Cathedral is a beautiful, historic building, situated in the centre of the City of Melbourne, Australia. It is a place of worship and prayer. St Paul's is built on the site where the first public Christian services in Melbourne were led by Dr Alexander Thomson in 1836. Soon afterwards a small wooden chapel was built elsewhere, and the area became a corn market until 1848, when it was made available for the building of the bluestone St Paul's Parish Church. Consecrated in 1852, this Church was used until 1885, when it was demolished to make way for the present Cathedral. The decision to build on the site of the existing church was made because of its proximity to the railway and soon to be completed cable tramway service. The Swanston Street and Flinders Street corner remains one of Melbourne's busiest intersections today, ensuring the Cathedral is a place at the heart of city life.

I was amazed by the sight of this Cathedral - inside and out. It is a marvelous Anglican Church with trace of the history of Melbourne. The sight inside inside is breath taking and one can find peace and serenity inside the church. A must for first time traveler to Melbourne.

I went here last week as I was visiting Melbourne on business.it allows you to simply sit quietly and recharge your batteries in a magnificent building full of impressive stained glass and interesting historical details. Very friendly welcoming staff especially in the gift shop. Check out the olive wood sculptures from the Holy Land: a bargain!

St Paul Cathedral, in the middle of the city, wide tall building. Anyone would think you are in London. But the fact is that you are in Melbourne, a beautiful slow-pace city with a gotic, impressive church just in front of Flinder Station. A must to see and enter.

Beautiful place! Visited it twice.

Loved how there were flyers located at the entrance, that marks places in the Cathedral with interesting facts (great for people who have not much idea what is usually found in cathedrals!)

Have to pay to be allowed to take photos, I personally think it is worth paying, especially when there is no entrance ticket whatsoever.

There is a mini shop that sells postcards and little decorations, the staff there are really helpful. Enjoyed visiting!
