Owner description: St Paul's Anglican Cathedral is a beautiful, historic building, situated in the centre of the City of Melbourne, Australia. It is a place of worship and prayer. St Paul's is built on the site where the first public Christian services in Melbourne were led by Dr Alexander Thomson in 1836. Soon afterwards a small wooden chapel was built elsewhere, and the area became a corn market until 1848, when it was made available for the building of the bluestone St Paul's Parish Church. Consecrated in 1852, this Church was used until 1885, when it was demolished to make way for the present Cathedral. The decision to build on the site of the existing church was made because of its proximity to the railway and soon to be completed cable tramway service. The Swanston Street and Flinders Street corner remains one of Melbourne's busiest intersections today, ensuring the Cathedral is a place at the heart of city life.

“20 minutes is enough”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

This cathedral is right in the middle of Melbourne and takes only 20 minutes for a quick visit. The man who designed this building nervous or in person, if he had I think he may have had second thoughts about from black striped around all of the walls, the inside was little the oppressive. Unlike other cathedrals that we have looked at it didn't have that are Holy feel for us.

“Peaceful spot in the middle of the city”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

You won't find much to remark upon in St. Paul's if you have visited other cathedrals around the world. Its best point is its location in the middle of the city where it provides a calm oasis. Worth popping in if you are passing but not a must-do unless you want to mark this one off the "list of cathedrals that I have visited".

“Beautiful Building”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2013

The Cathedral is well worth a visit - a beautiful building with some stunning stained glass windows. Had hoped to attend the Sunday Eucharist but due to late night on Saturday night / Sunday morning - missed the service!!!! Will be back.

“This is an Anglican Cathedral not Roman Catholic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2013

The last two reviewers falsely claimed that St Paul´s Cathedral is (Roman) Catholic. It is in fact an Anglican cathedral.

A beautiful cathedral with friendly welcoming people. Good music. A special service for the 60th anniversary of the Coronation of The Queen.
