“Great thing to do in Melbourne”

I love history, so if you do too then this is one of the places to check out when in Melbourne. If you don't like history you might not find this very fun.

“Interesting look at Melbournes Penal past”
Reviewed December 27, 2012

Again, Melboure do a fine job with their Museums and this is no exception. If you have an interest in Ned Kelly then it's a must see. There are also some hair raising stories told during the tour. I wouldn't wan to spend a night in the place.

“Not Worth $25”
Reviewed December 24, 2012

This is an interesting and historical building. I did the Watchhouse tour and as others have mentioned, the gaol itself is self guided. There were warnings for kids under 15 regarding the Watchhouse tour and I expected it to be much more severe. As others have mentioned, it was more for funny entertainment. The Watchhouse tour was about half an hour and it took me about half an hour to do the self-guided tour. If I had paid $8, it would have been worth it, but not $25.

We just did the tour of the jail and because it was the holidays one of the tour guides was giving an overview of the jail. He provided a lot of interesting info as well as explained how the exhibits are laid out. We spent the next hour wandering around reading scary stories of convicts... a special section designated for the famous Ned Kelly.
Overall a fun hour or so...
