Melbourne Zoo is one of the great zoos - it's in a beautiful park just a 15 minute tram ride for the city, route 55 from William St in the CBD. Kids are free so it's a value option for families.

We travelled there recently for a particular activity call ianimal but the zoo on it's own is a fantastic place to spend a half a day just walking around and soaking up this very relaxing environment.

It's an attractive, well set out Zoo with some great new exhibits and some older ones.

It's only about 5 minutes past the Victoria Market too so you can easily make a full day of it in that part of the city.

There is food available there and it's a nice place to have a coffee and something for a morning or afternoon tea in particular.

The zoo itself was amazing! There are so many areas where you can interact with the animals and walk through the enclosures. The feedings were also very informative and the staff were very friendly and happy to answer any questions you have about the animals. The single down side for us was the price and quality of the food available for purchase. Two of us bought lunch and it was close to the price of the admission so would recommend bringing in your own lunch.

The Zoo is awesome . loved the elephants . the plains enclosures are fantastic . what is so great is that is so accessible from the city, A must for all visitors. A great day out for the kids. It's so big, really tired after big day off walking. Kids had a ball.

Excellent Zoo, conservation friendly very close to the heart of Melbourne.
I will definitely be giving the two sister zoos a look on my return.

Spacious and nice to walk while enjoying the beautiful garden and many different types of animals - some of which were completely new to me. The Zoo was so big that we missed out some sections and had to walk back to search the animals we wanted to see. The animals seemed happy with the vast space to roam and jump.
