Some great displays with good interpretation, lovely gardens which are well maintained. Food could be better

We have seen a lot of zoo's around the world and although not the largest cheapest or with the most species, we admire the fact that the animals here have a far better lifestyle with regards to their enclosures and the space.
Spend the whole day here with the family. Take the car or better still, the train stops right outside one of the entrances.

The zoo is such a fun thing to do - catch the no 55 tram - very easy. Good for all ages and on a cold winter's day you can always warm up in the beautiful butterfly house.

On arriving at the zoo, the choice is which way, get a map of the zoo and the rest is history, following the map ,your got time to have a break, prices a little high but you can always bring your lunch, snacks etc.
The best for me was the " LIONS" you don't realise how big the cats are until you see them eating, the butterfly cage was great, stand sill and hope they land on you, wear bright colours "RED" (hat) they seem to like, before you know your ate the monkeys, what laughter, spent some time having some fun with them
A Great Day.

As far as animals go- there was a great range of monkeys, and the giraffes and elephants were good to see. However can really remember many other animals when compared to other zoos we have been to around Australia. Although the reptile house and butterfly house was pretty special.

Food- great choices available. Quality wasn't too bad.

As we entered the zoo for the rear entrance (as we caught the tram there), the map looked quite haphazard and had us thinking we wold miss a lot of the animals if we had to keep doubling back. However we wold recommend that if you come I through the back entrance, just head straight to the front and then work your way back. The trails make a lot more sense from the front direction and flow better.

If you have kids, a MUST is the kids room just across from the front entrance. It is free, and has a great play area where kids can dress up as a zookeeper (coat, zebra binoculars), a researcher, a botanist, or my 4 yr olds favourite was a vet (jacket, stethoscopes, variety of X-rays, pretend syringes, medical gear etc to use on the stuffed animals in their cages etc). Was just a great setup and she could have played for hours. Our 18 month old enjoyed sorting through the buckets with pretend fruit and veg- ready to feed the animals!
