Owner description: Journey through a world of wildlife in the heart of Melbourne. Over 250 species from around the world can be found in the beautiful setting of Melbourne Zoo, just five minutes from the city centre. Stroll through the lush Asian and African rainforests, Australian bushland and even underwater! Walk where tigers roam and monkeys swing from tree to tree. See eye-to-eye with the Orang-utans in their special elevated exhibit, explore the Trail of Elephants and then head down the bush track to see unique Australian wildlife including koalas, kangaroos, wombats and emus. Submerge yourself in our underwater world to see Victoria's iconic Little Penguins, Australian Fur Seals and more! Meet the Keeper: Hear our expert keepers give daily talks about the animals in their care. Close-up Encounters: Book a close-up encounter with one of our animals for a great photo opportunity. Melbourne Zoo is also the proud winner of the Victoria Tourism Awards RACV People’s Choice category, voted by Victorians as their Favourite Metro Attraction in both 2015 and 2016!

If possible pre buy your tickets before you go on-line. Seniors get a discount. This will help you to bypass the crowds at the gate. Drive in early to get a good parking spot near the entrance. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a stroller for your small children. It is a good time to be in by 9.30am . The animals are waiting for there feed and are active. My grandson eyes lit up when he heard the great big cats roar. The zoo is well laid out, so take it slowly so that it is enjoyable for you as well as the children. They should have had a pet farm were small domestic animals could have been petted, this would have been the best hands on experience for the children.

A great option for getting around the city but a couple of times we couldn't get on the tram because of the number of people using it! Beware of the stairs inside the door - saw a few people trip and nearly fall.

Went to Melbourne Zoo yesterday after 5 years, and it's not as bad as I remembered it to be. The zoo is rather large and it took me and my cousin 5 hours to see the whole zoo. Enterance cost was $25 for an adult but the food and beverages inside were extremely overpriced. Would recommend that people bring their own sandwiches and bottles of wdrink to save on the cost especially if you're coming with a few children. My cousin and I decided on an interaction with the Cotton Top Tamerins which was $20 extra. Little bit disapointing as it's a really quick encounter where you feed the monkies, take photos (which are $15 each afterwards) and that's it. Overall it was a good day out but cost more than I intended it to.
