If I lived in Melbourne with children or was visiting with children this would be one of my favorite places to go (along with Science Works and Puffin Billy). it is very geared toward children and they would have an awesome time there. Some of the displays have little places only kids can fit or viewing spots way down low. There is a huge variety of sea life here and fish are always fascinating. Everything from a sea horse exhibit to penguins in snow to crocodiles, sharks, rays, and more. I was with my husband and on a Sunday it was very noisy and crowded. If you are going with adults only I recommend going during the week when it might be a little less crowded and quieter. (There might be school groups then?) The place is very large, use the map and make sure you get to all the exhibits before exiting. We bought our tickets there, walking in for $44.

Hi Peggy,

Thanks for the great review! We hope you were able to go home having learnt some new facts about our awesome oceans!

As a family attraction, our numbers increase during the weekends and it can often get a little busy inside. We encourage guests to visit us during the week and/or before 11 am or after 4 pm for a more quiet and relaxing visit to the aquarium.

We hope to SEA you again soon!

Best fishes,
SEA LIFE Melbourne

An hour an a half of fun. A little expensive but the money is well spent on the upkeep of the place and the animals. There are interactive areas for the kids including: touching tank, a tank reflecting wall and crawl through tank spaces. Australian sea life is definitely represented and the jelly fish are plenty. The huge stingrays swimming above as you walk thru the tunnel tank is amazing. The penguins are a highlight. If you haven’t been to a SEALIFE somewhere in the world, I recommend to go!

Great fun and will be a fun filled couple of hours. This activity will only fill 1-3 hours and is extremely expensive for such a short time.
The exhibits are fantastic and children will love them. Staff are knowledgeable.
It has fairly small walkways so during busy periods is somewhat crowded. They take your picture as you enter and then chase you down as you exit to try and sell the overpriced pictures.

For parents with kids, this is a really good place to spend half a day.
For tourists without kids, this may not be on your priority list if you are not joining their special activities like diving in shark tank.

Having been to dozens of aquariums I have to say this is not amongst the best. Nevertheless, the staffs are wonderful and for tourists the activities provided are quite interesting and do worth a visit. For locals with kid, given its location it is even a good option for annual pass.

I took my family including my 3 year old nephew ( all first timers) and we all just loved our experience.
The place is just breathtaking to learn about the sea creatures. WE bought tickets online and this was just a simple fuss free process and we glided through the line. The photos at the start were just beautiful - so very well done. I must say the penguins were my standout - just mesmerising to watch them live.
The rain forest is absolutely beautiful and you can easily get lost in the pure beauty in this recreation of the real thing.
Only feedback would be for some healthy salad or non fried options in the cafe - everything was fried ( tho delicious) but just a suggestion.
Thank you Sea life for an amazing day to share with my family. Staff were all so lovely and helpful from start to finish.
