My partner and I flew in for the AFL Grand Final and chose to stay at the Best Western Atlantis. After researching a number of hotels for a 5 night stay over Grand Final weekend the Atlantis came in at almost half the price of our other options. With a location 2 blocks from the Southern Cross bus station it was also perfect for airport transfers.

On arrival check in was quick and convenient. I had made a request to stay on a higher floor based on previous Trip Advisor tips and this was noted and catered for with the check-in staff changing my room to Level 17 without having to ask. I was also able to organise for a second key for my partner to be collected the next day without any trouble.

The room was nicely functional, with a comfortable Queen bed. Nice views of the city if you like looking at lights (which I do) that could be nicely blocked out due to the double blinds. Shower was powerful and hot, with a nice selection of pressure levels from the 5 function shower head. I would have preferred a detachable showerhead, but this isn't a big deal.

Housekeeping were efficient and friendly, had 1 occasion to be in the room when housekeeping arrived and they were courteous and quick.

The location does require a little bit more walking if you want to do things in the main CBD, so plan accordingly. I'd suggest allowing 15~20 minutes to walk in to the Bourke St Mall or Federation Square, bring comfortable shoes.

All in all, had a very relaxing trip in a hotel which delivered exactly what it promised: A comfortable room at a great price, with nothing we didn't need. Would absolutely stay again.

Room Tip: That's Weird: For a room designed for 2 people, there was only 1 towel hook on the door and the shower-glass went to the ceiling. This meant there was only space to hang 1 towel, not 2.

It is a very practical option to stay on a business trip. With close access to local transport and airport transfers and if you are looking for something at an upwardly reasonable price then Atlantis definitely is worth your consideration. It is neat and fairly comfortable in the middle of the city. However, the fact that you need to hop off the taxi right on Spencer street with all your luggage is definitely a big negative.

This is a budget hotel, but for a city like Melbourne is well priced with basic rooms - if you just want a room with not much else this is a good option. Basic everything; but clean, new and modern, including TV channels, fridge and iron but has a great walk in shower!
Front desk are friendly, offer advice and sorted out a light that wasn't working immediately.
Location - just off the city centre, but well served from a trams and trains perspective. The Skybus to the airport in just opposite.
Don't bother with breakfast - plenty of places closer to the city

Room Tip: Indoor pool & reasonable gym Supermarket across the street open 'til midnight Train station and airport bus just opposite & on the St Kilda tram line

Recently stayed here for a second time, and really enjoyed our stay. We loved the location even though it's a bit of a walk into the city centre. It's very quiet at night and the pool/sauna area is great.
We had to move rooms after the first night because we needed a rollaway bed for the remaining nights. Our first room was actually a lot nicer and with a better bathroom (in the back tower of the hotel), but for the price we were still happy with our second, slightly bigger room.
One small issue we had was after breakfast before we moved rooms, our room key wouldn't work. After several trips to and from reception, we were told the battery had run out on the room key reader on our door. Without our bags/wallets or anything, we had to wait 30-40 mins for them to get the door open while we waited in our new room. It was a bit inconvenient since we ended up wasting half our morning.
Despite this, we still highly recommend staying at the hotel. Everything else was great and we'll definitely be back again.

Stayed at the Atlantis last week and was pleasantly surprised. The hotel was new and clean, in a great location super close to transport but I mostly just walked into the CBD and across to the Convention Center etc. Didn't use the pool or gym so can't comment on those but breakfast was very ordinary. Cereal, toast, baked beans and scrambled eggs. Skip the breakfast and look elsewhere if you are paleo, lactose intolerant, gluten free or just want something fresh. I would definitely stay there again.
