“Great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2013

Very close to Southern Cross Station and trams which was convenient. Buffet breakfast was included in the room price which was good value for money. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. We had trouble with the aircon and they were straight up to the room to fix it when we called.

Was recommended to this hotel by my client. Good value (I paid AUD99 for each night, stayed two nights, included breakfast, "Exec Queen" room), modern, clean and tidy. Fittings are ok, a few annoyances, would be easy to improve.

- room was modern and clean but stuffy. Aircon display faulty/worn so tricky to figure out what it was doing. I ended up either always little too warm or a little too cold. And boy the compressor for it was NOISY. Really knew it was on. Windows don't open. Despite that there is a reasonable level of noise from the trams and the street even up on the 8th floor. If you are a light sleeper bring plugs or ask for non-street facing room.

- internal door lock was faulty, did not operate
- Modern bright well fitted bathroom, great towels and ok toiletries but awful lighting for shaving (one overhead spot BEHIND you so face in shadow). Clearly designed by someone that does not shave daily. Great large shower, water pressure, temperature
- breakfast buffet (included) was good but limited. First time I have ever seen a hot buffet limited to two items (just beans and s/eggs). I like the veggie style but how about adding some mushrooms, hash browns, baked tomatoes...? The normal cereal and toast. No baked goods
- Good desk and light in room for working, large flatscreen tv, good range of channels
- good bed, crisp bed linen and nice pillows
- nothing in the mini bar except UHT milk
- location is excellent. Five mins easy walk from Southern Cross railway/bus station on busy street. Plenty of taxis. The airport bus starts/ends there also.

As a business hotel for a short visit this is perfectly fine. It is not 4 or 5 star prices so much of the above (basic fare) is only to be expected. Best thing the manager can do is to incentivise staff correctly so they SMILE and interact with visitors. If there is one thing that puts me off a service business is unhappy glum staff. From the reception right thru to the breakfast room all of the staff were just flat. Not bad, just no smile, no chat. A few smiles and positive interaction would have pushed this to a 4-5 star review.

Room Tip: Street rooms, even high up are noisy.

My friend and I had 3 nights in Melbourne at the start of our trip and another 3 at the end. So we decided to pick a cheaper place at the start and do luxury at the end. In the end, there wasn't allot of difference between the two.

The location was very handy. The Hotel is approx 500 meters from the main Skybus terminal in Melbourne city. Trams go past right outside, although we found it just as easy to just walk all around the city from the Hotel. For example, Melbourne Aquarium, the Eureka 88 building, downtown shopping, restaurants, Harbour Town and the docklands DFO shopping etc. Crown Casino is a short walk also.

The Hotel has a nice pool and clean modern rooms. The bed was very comfy.

One tip would be to watch what room they put you in, as we were given a room with no windows on the 14th floor, that was next to what I think was the air conditioning units for the building? I kept waking up during the night to what sounded like an aircraft taking off.

I would use this Hotel again, though I would pick a different room next time.

Hotel is OK. Room was small and no windows opened. So room was very stuffy.
Hotel lacked security. Anyone from street could enter carpark, hotel and use hotel lifts.
Would be a great location if you were going to Etihad stadium, however, we found it was a little bit too far out.

I like staying at this hotel because it is so close to Southern Cross Station, Etihad Stadium and has efficient public transport to anywhere in the city at the front door. The rooms are always uncrowded, clean and have all the basics. Buffet breakfasts are good value too.

Room Tip: Rooms not facing Spencer St are quieter.

I have stayed at this hotel many years ago on work-related trips and at the time found it to be very satisfactory. This time I was attending an entertainment event at the Rod Laver Arena and needed an inner-city hotel with car-parking and with good public transport options for an overnight stay at a low cost. As before, the hotel provided all that I required. A good sized, clean, secure, comfortable and quiet room. Breakfast was included in the price and this too was very satisfactory. It is a good functional hotel for a short city stay that delivers good value within its class category.

Room Tip: The hotel has two parts: a tower and a more compact building. I have always been accommodated in the...
