We stayed three nights at this hotel which was conveniently located in Spencer St opposite Southern Cross railway and bus station. The trip from the airport was easy as this was the endpoint for the airport shuttle and we also took the bus to Ballarat when we left Melbourne. We had a "grandview" room on the eighteenth floor (included breakfast) which was a minimum 2 night special and great value. The buffet continental breakfast included eggs and baked beans. I would like there to have been more fruit for cereal eg. stewed fruit, bananas etc. Apples were provided. It was easy to take the circle tram to locations around the city and there was a Coles supermarket in the street. Queen Victoria Markets and other sights and places are within easy walking distance.

Great - Stayed for 4 nights - Jan 2013, we frequent Melbourne twice a year, found the place very clean and friendly, we had two rooms booked with teenage kids, Continental Breakfast was included and for the price we paid it was definitely Great Value, free Tram at corner of Spencer & La Trobe, walking distance to Docklands, Etihad Stadium, Bourke St, Collin St, DFO Docklands, Lygon St and was about 15-20 min walk to Southwharf, will return,

Great Staff, Clean and Welcoming !!!

Stayed there for 3 nights during the Australian Open .Hotel was booked out yet we found the place very quiet . Walking distance to Coles and Southern Cross Station were the Sky bus Depot is.The free City Circle tram can be caught on the corner block and its a short walk for all other tram services. The breakfast was simple but would like to see more fruit on the menu. Would stay there again maybe free WiFI would be handy

Recently stayed for the australia open. Would have rated it an excellent hotel (new facilities, free breakfast, great location, reasonable price) if there was some basic cleaning of the room done.
For 5 days of our stay, except for changing towels and quick tidy-up of the vanity & the beds, no cleaning/vacuuming was done. Every night on returning to the hotel we saw the same toothpaste marks, same crumbs & hair on the floor etc... The staff i spoke to seemed used to this kind of complaints and just brushed off with a insincere 'sorry'. We were just expecting a minimum level of cleaning that even a 3 star hotel can offer. I read a few other similar reviews before and felt that this hotel has great potential to get much higher rating if the management can take a serious look into the problem.

Room Tip: rooms with the dockland or city view better.

Stayed here for the Australian Open for 4 nights in January 2013. A tad bit too far to walk to the free city tram but had a Coles grocery store across the street which was convenient. Southern Cross Station is ver close, a few blocks walk and there are several places to get free wi-fi (Pie Face, Hungry Jacks, Starbucks). Also, there is a Subway shop close which is an inexpensive place for lunch considering the prices in Melbourne.
The staff was friendly but one girl just didn't know where things were. She might have been new but didn't know the basics like where a bank was or the names of the streets. Kind of frustrating considering the staff of a hotel should know these things.
Internet is not included and neither is breakfast - $12 if you want it. The Pie Face is close and a neat place to get coffee and a breakfast pie for half that - with the free wi-fi.
If I went to the Open again, I would stay a little closer to Flinders and would book at the Quality Hotel - Batman.

This hotel was your standard best western. comfortable rooms, clean and equipped with air con. woohoo!
The location was fantastic, the free tram stopped just around the corner and the coach station just a few blocks away, perfect for making our way back to the airport.
The view out of the room wasn't great but we didnt spend two days in our hotel room so not an issue.
The room came with all the needed amenities. coffee making, iron, hairdryer, fridge etc.
The pool was ok, but there was a bit of a pong which didnt make it very inviting. Value for money was excellent, with breakfast included and they say continental but there were scrambled eggs and beans on offer too.

Room Tip: If you choose the docklands view you will be overlooking some rubble and the train tracks.

Unlike many other reviewers I do not consider the location of Best Western Atlantis to be great. Due to its proximity to Southern Cross station, it might be an advantage if one has to catch a train or the airport bus. However, it’s quite a long walk to Swanston street and Federation square and that’s where most sights, shops and restaurants are located. Fortunately, the free circle tram stops near the hotel and I do not mind walking anyway, so location was not an issue.
I stayed for only 2 nights in November 2012 on a tourist purpose and cannot fault the hotel. Considering its relatively low prices, the Best Western Atlantis offered great value for money.
My room was reasonably clean and quite big (so was the bathroom). Basic amenities as toiletries and a safe were provided. My bed was very comfortable and the sheets adequatly clean. Unfortunetaly, windows can not be opened and for some reason, air condition did not work properly. As temperatures were quite low during my visit, this wasn’t however a problem. Hotel facilities were well maintained, staff friendly as one can expect in a chain hotel. There was a pool with a small sauna and an exercise room in the basement which were great to use after a long day.
Breakfast wasn’t included in the price but it costed only 12 Au$ (so much cheaper than in any other hotel I stayed during my trip). Choice at breakfast was quite good for a tourist- class hotel but freshness of food and taste were just average. Breakfast consisted of some warm dishes as bacon, baked beans and scrambled eggs, cheese, sausages, different kind of pastries as well as fruit juices.
All I all, my stay at the Best Western Atlantis was a pleasant one and I would not hesitate to return. It’s not the perfect place to stay but there is nothing to criticize for the low price.

Room Tip: For a great view, request a room facing the harbour
