“A pleasant surprise”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

I was wary of this hotel. The nightly rate was very reasonable for inner city Melbourne. But my stay was great. The room was very small but bed was comfy and the room had all I needed. There was a problem with the TV and had no reception for the first two days but they sorted it after that. Location was superb. There was no free wi-fi but otherwise no complaints.

We were recommended to stay here by a friend ...purly for location and it was fantastic. Walking distance to many popular streets in the heart of Melbourne and super close to Southbank.
Rooms were small but we were only looking for a place to sleep and not a place to spend hours in our room. Bed was super comfy.
Would stay again because of location.

I had just finished my review singing its praises for its value. I got out of bed to get ready for a shower before checkout and found a flea on me. Not great. Staff were apologetic but less than ideal.

I have stayed here two times. The hotel it self is in a great location and the price is good which is why I came back. It is located right within all the shopping and close to tram lines so you can travel easily.
The room is small, but it is sufficient if you don't plan to spend much time there. The breakfast also is okay, has your standard stuff: Toast, spreads, fruit, yoghurt, cereal, juice.
The lift doesn't go all the way up from the ground floor, so you stop at level two and walk across to another lift to get to the upper levels- which can be a bit annoying. It is also really slow, shame that we aren't allowed to use the stairs.
The staff aren't very approachable either, but that's okay-we managed to seek help from the information booths on Bourke Street.

In all, its a great small hotel if you don't plan to be in the hotel room much and are seeking a great located hotel within the CBD area.

I have stayed at the Causeway Inn twice now & each time have enjoyed my stay. Location is fantastic, beds comfy & brekky is just what u need to start the day. I have noticed comments on room size but I didn't have a problem. We had a twin bed room & even though it was on the smaller side, we didn't care cause we were only there to sleep. You can make a cuppa, chill on the bed for some time & it's nice & quite. I have already booked my next stay there next year & will be going again in 2015. I think it's a great place to stay..

Booked this online and was dropped off where we thought we had booked, to be told we were actually booked in the other 'Causeway' at the above address...this wasn't noted on their booking site. Walked up there and of course too early to book in so left our bags in storage, to return later. People everywhere, but booking in was done efficiently and quickly.

After a shaky start of not having the bed we ordered, no towels and sour milk in our fridge, things got better. We learnt that the Hotel had started new cleaning contractors that day (we arrived) and hence things not being done. Once the staff came to rectify these issues we found them friendly, very apologetic and helpful.

The room was tidy, clean and the bed was comfortable but the pillows were lumpy and horrible. Bar fridge, tea/coffee making facilities available. Breakfast was very filling, easy accessible, good variety for a continental breakfast and good sized dining room.

Very good location and only a 6min walk to Flinders Station to catch the free City loop tram and other attractions such as Bourke St Mall for shopping, Fed Square, The Tower and other eateries nearby that were great. The Korean restaurant just 5min walk up the St would be a high recommendation!
Would stay here again because of the location and the staff overall were helpful and friendly. Yes it does get very busy at the reception desk, which I use as a good gauge that it is a popular place but it can cause hinderance to the elevators as they are opposite the reception desk and where people sue to be served.

We stayed for just one night in a standard room which included breakfast (however we chose to dine else where).

We dropped our bags off at the hotel early morning and the service was quite good although basic. When we retured at 2:15pm to check-in it was a different story.. Reception was chaotic! Many guests standing around waiting to check-in, one receptionist on the phone yelling at house keeping to hurry up with the rooms and the second receptionist rushing around doing many jobs at once. Check-In was a disaster as we got confused for other guests and asked to pay a deposit on the room again even though we'd already paid. Our bags then got mixed up and we were also given the wrong access cards to our room. Finally it was all sorted and we made it to our room only to discover a tiny tiny room hardly big enough for two adults. The bathroom was dirty with hairs in the sink and shower, tooth paste splattered up the wall and on the taps, and soggy soap from where the tap had been left on and dripped everywhere. Other negative was the shower curtain did a pathetic job at keeping the water in the shower, therefore we were left with a flooded bathroom..

Sadly the only good we found was the quietness of the room, location of the hotel, and the comfy bed!

We will stay else where next time we are in Melbourne as we believe you can get much better value for the same cheap rate.
