The Holiday Inn is in a great location despite the old-looking buildings that surround the property.
The free City Circle tram is just down the road on the corner of Spencer and Flinders Streets enabling many CBD points of interest to be explored e.g. Melbourne Exhibition Building, Flinders Street Railway Station, and the Immigration Museum.
Docklands is nearby (just past Southern Cross Station) which has Harbortown Shopping precinct.
For sports fans, Etihad Stadium is nearby and the MCG is a 15-minute walk away.
If you want to go on organized tours, pick-ups can be arranged from the hotel front door.
Rooms were warm and comfortable and enough space for a couple. Possibly a bit tight for a family. Laundry facilities are on the second floor and were easy to use. The restaurant on the ground floor is spacious and serves good food. Room service is efficient and of a good quality. There is internet access in the rooms for those who feel the need to stay "connected".
Checking in and out was easy and staff made sure that everything was okay before completing the transactions.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Spencer Street afford a good view of the sky to check the weather, which is very import...

I usually stay at the Holiday Inn on Flinders when I travel to Melbourne for work. It is well maintained and has very friendly staff. It is well located on the corner of Spencer and Flinders Lane with a short walk to Docklands Stadium and Spencer Street Station. the cheap factory outlets of Spencer Street are also close by. A five minute stroll has you at South Bank, with access to excellent dining, a leisurely walk along the river or, if you must, a night at the casino. A trip up to the Eureka Sky Deck is also a good way to see Melbourne.

Room Tip: Ask for the King Bed Superior room. Its a bit more space for the same or not much more price than th...

We stayed in room 218, and it had a funky smell.
Beware of the shower curtain - it smelt very funky also.
We spotted two daddy long leg spiders in the room also.
Not sure what the story is with those lingering about in the room.
I was faced with two pillow options - firm or soft - firm was too firm - and soft too soft. I ended up with a sore neck. The bed itself was quite firm.
Overall, this is a hotel which is in a very convinient location - close to the Skybus, southbank, Crown, Exhibition Centre and there is a tram stop right out the front, and the City Circle tram around the corner on Flinders St.
The breakfast was great, I cannot fault it - the breakfast staff all very friendly and fantastic. The egg chefs were both very friendly.
The hotel staff were also very friendly and happy to help with all enquiries.
If i was to stay here again, I'd definitely ask for another room.

I stayed sun 21 april, one night, was a late ariver but check in was a breeze, also kept a great quiet room for me as promised. The staff are an asset here, the rooms are totaly comfortable i had a huge bed, and a great big wall to ceiling window looking up flinders st that a nice surprise, clean room , bathrooms a little bit 80's so a spruce up woundnt hurt, but saying that was a reliable nice hot shower.
room service was promt and the food was really tasty, and ok priced as well., pricey wi/fi, REALLY why charge these days?
Great coffee well it is Melbourne, but really good
over all rather pleasently surprised, thanks for a good stay guys.

This place is located within short walking distance from Southern Cross Station, so if you're coming in via SkyBus or interstate train it's less than 300 metres down the road. It's also within 100m of trams that go all over the city - you can get the tram directly outside the hotel to go to South Melb Markets or St Kilda, or just a little longer walk (50 metres!!) to get the City Circle or any tram along Flinders Street and through Collins Street or Bourke Street. So, you can pretty much get anywhere on PT from this hotel. It's also just a short walk to Southbank, Docklands or anywhere in the CBD/Downtown. It's a fabulous location.

We booked the cheapest room rate when booking, and boy did we experience it. The room was quite small, but had the typical Holiday Inn feel so I can't really fault it, we got what we paid for. What did surprise me was we had a shower curtain in the shower/bath. I can't remember the last time I stayed somewhere that didn't have glass screen/doors over the shower. I found it odd, particularly when paying over $200 a night. It's the only thing I'd really fault and think they need to upgrade this feature of the rooms.

Upon checking in and freshening up before heading out again I noticed a couple of spiders (harmless daddy long legs). Having a phobia of spiders, I told reception and asked that they kill/remove them and when we got back they were gone and we didn't see any again our whole stay. While finding spiders in a room isn't pleasant, staff acted quickly to fix the problem so it's not something I'd hold against them. (I would if we saw them repeatedly, but we didn't.)

We had breakfast included, and it was delicious. Great egg station that produced great poached eggs and omelettes, toast, coffee, hot food, awesome selection of cereals. Can't fault it.

Room Tip: Some of the cheaper rooms have shower curtains.

Unfortunately a family holiday was spoilt by a bout of food poising by my son after dining in the hotels restaurant, Sirocco Restaurant.
A doctor was called to the room (at $290) and gave my son an injection to stop the vomiting, after complaining to the staff the Duty Manager said they (the hotel) had to do an investigation and will get back after the investigation, the hotel did noty tell me an outcome after a week into our stay.
I did not wish to make a fuss and only requested that the doctors bill and his meal be taken off the final account (12 day stay).
After now three weeks ands several attempts to receive an outcome I am still yet to receive an answer.
A holiday spoilt by a lack of customer service and care.

Dear Kim J

We are saddened to hear that you did not have the true Sirocco experience on this occasion. We pride ourselves on our food and customer service. I’m glad we’ve had the opportunity to connect with you to explain the investigation process we undertook.

We sincerely hope that the remainder of your stay was a positive experience and fun for your family too.
