Only in Chapel street can you see a man drinking beer at 8am on a Sunday morning and look like he's enjoying. I prefer the bacon and eggs and a great cup of coffee and the many varied cafes on offer here. Also the clothes, many lovely shops to go buying things in.

Having lived in and around the area I have seen it go from a destination for great shopping to a bit depressing. As people get sick of the exspesive prices with a side of attitude from sales staff this street has become increasing vacant and not worth the trouble of trying to find a park at.

Atmosphere. Parking without paying ... however do NOT overstay your welcome, nor do u-turns ... police always there.
Wonderful shops like Dinosaur Designs, Gormans, Country Road, Alannah HILL, some interesting jewellers towards Toorak Road end which sponsor upcoming siversmith students. Movies, irish bars, of course lots of coffee shops and the odd fitness centre Stupid asian massage parlours and nail bars that offer footbaths chockfull of bacteria.

Unfortunately this once happening place is in a rutt...
A few years ago this were the street (together with Commercial Rd) where everone went to shop, but now when Borders closed down and many other stores and bars have taken down their signs, the "feeling" is gone...
I am not a city planner but something needs to happen or we will see all "high streets" dwindle and we will be left with chadstone and fountaingate, and I doubt that is where we want to end up, do we?

The council has let Chapel Street become grubby and neglected for almost 20 years. Chapel Street should be Australia's leading boutique strip with quality paved footpaths, strong branding and maintained trees. They have done it for Glenferrie Road so they can do it here.
