“Can't beat it on a good day”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2014

Dropped in for a drink on a Sunday late afternoon with friends on a recent business trip. This is surely one of the best locations in Melbourne on a nice day. Great ambience, good crowd, great views from the middle of the Yarra. Try it !

“Vibrant, secluded and in the middle of a river!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2014

Ponyfish Island is a bar / restaurant situated on the concrete support pontoon of and beneath a pedestrian footbridge crossing the the River Yara(?) in Melbourne. Because it is only accessible by stairs, and the entrance not hugely apparent, there are no old people! One of its great features in my opinion. Very much a young persons place, and in fairness it probably wouldn't attract the older generation due to its younger clientele. It is a vibrant place, but also relaxing, set in the middle of the river. Able to watch the world go by on either river bank and the wildlife on the river. My girlfriend and I had a wrap and a sandwich which turned up when it should have done and both tasted awesome. We also tried their own branded ponyfish cider and larger. Really good, especially the cider. Will certainly go back if I get the chance.

Such a blissful atmosphere. No doubt you'll end up walking right past it, so why not stop here for your morning coffee, or afternoon drink at least. its so tranquil overlooking the calm yarra. BEAUTIFUL

Hangout spot? drink spot? Perfect spot!

As you stroll over the Yarra and Southbank footbridge, you will soon notice a hive of activity down below, where the people look happy and chillaxed. You will soon find yourself saying "I want me some o' dat!".

This place is a great bar/cafe, perfect for quenching one's thirst, right by the river, watching the people go by and admiring the Melbourne skyline. Having a few drinks here, there's something quite Parisian-nesque about it all. Even more so, when you do leave, the footbridge also has its own "love-locks" (just like Paris).

I was drinking imported beers, so the price was a bit steep, but I really enjoyed the casual laid-back vibe of the place. Lots of fellow tourists seeking respite, and the staff were friendly. They had a little DJ in the corner o.n her laptop, playing some tunes. All in all, a great way to spend an afternoon
