Owner description: Experience life at The Village Market. Since 1867, South Melbourne Market has been a treasured inner city landmark and a favourite amongst locals and visitors. It is the quintessential village market, a place where people come not only to purchase fresh food, but to meet, eat, drink, shop, discover, share and connect. Our walls are full of authentic traders who display their wares with pride and passion. Quirky and playful characters are found behind the counters, delivering old fashioned customer service with a smile. We embrace and showcase the local, supporting local farmers, artisans and producers. It’s a foodie’s paradise where freshness, quality and diversity are paramount with food stuffs from land to sea. We celebrate a philosophy of Real Food. Local Life. encouraging you to cook food that is made from great quality, fresh produce sourced from our family of traders you know, love and trust. We are a home to seriously good coffee, specialty tea and a vibrant restaurant precinct for day and night time fun. There’s also an amazing array of merchandise and services with everything from clothing, homewares and second hand books to hairdressing and pet food. With a full calendar of live music, events and activities, the Market is a happy and experiential place that celebrates the senses. Take a trip to the Market, you never know what you’ll find, but we guarantee it will be full of surprise, moments and wonder.

I love South Melbourne Markets!!! Great fresh fruit, veg, meat, fish, cheese and baked goods, coffee, a small food court, plus a good variety of stalls offering their wares for sale. It's not a junky market. I always enjoy tasting olive oil at Kalaparee Olive Shop.

I love the south Melbourne market and get my fresh food, vegetables, fish, nuts, Asian grocery, kitchen utensils, cheese, oysters, all at the same place. You can also get a massage if you get sore doing all that shopping!

Where else would you go shopping for fresh food , seafood and a lot of other things to buy.
Go on Wednesday to ensure you miss the weekend rush.
All things are pretty cheap and we travelled from Echuca to make a day on site.
Recommend to all

In my opinion these are the best markets in Melbourne. I know that the Vic Markets are far larger in size but for quality you cant go past the South Melbourne Markets. The markets operate on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Access from the city by tram 96 or 112 these Markets offer the freshest of food. A must at these markets is the Spring Rolls and Dim Sims, you can pick the stall as the queue is always constant. There are plenty of other dishes available to enjoy. The market contains delis, meat, seafood, pasta and bakeries.

This quaint compact market is delightful. Friendly stall holders with a great variety of merchandise; GREAT COFFEE (try PADRE Handcrafted Ice coffee!)

Parking is not subsidised by making a purchase so a tad pricey on weekends
