After viewing an exhibition at the gallery, we enjoyed a beautiful meal called Sunday Roast which was excellent quality ($39) and value for money! Could not fault any of the three courses as each was delicious and very well presented! Surroundings are lovely and spacious. Will definitely dine here again!

This restaurant in the National Gallery is spacious, the tables are well spaced, and it is quiet. The food is good and attractively presented. A two course lunch (select items from the a la carte menu) with a glass of wine for $45 could be a good choice. Don't be in a hurry - the service, though friendly, is casual at best.

Persimmon is located at the National Gallery of Victoria adjacent to the Great Hall. It's setting looks out to the gardens, water features and sculpture gardens of the gallery. Regardless of weather, it is a great outlook.
The menu had many interesting choices and all meals served were beautifully presented and delicious.
This restaurant is open for luck only, which is a shame as it would also make a great dinner destination.
Polite and attentive service.

We return to this restaurant on a regular basis and it never disappoints. Service is consistently friendly, helpful and professional. Have had midweek luncheons here - but my most favourite time to dine here is on a Sunday when Melbourne is most definitely "out and about" . Recently had the Market Menu and it was fantabulous!

Persimmon is spacious and more peaceful than many gallery restaurants. Tucked away out of the bustle of the formidable National Gallery of Victoria, facing a garden and water feature, it is quiet and a great place to meet friends. You can actually converse without sharing all your news with the next table.
Menu is adequate. Main of crab and pork was ok. Crab was delicious, pork a bit chewy. But we met friends there on two consecutive days and the second day we shared a platter. It was outstanding. Lots of delicatessen meat choices and condiments and bits and pieces. Very good value. Desserts are delightful. Pannacotta is silky and delicious.
Service friendly and attentive; a large group that looked like friends of the gallery were accommodated without disruption to smaller groups of lunchers. No one was fussed about time. We four lingered a long time both days and thoroughly enjoyed our experience.
Make sure to book and ask for a table by the window.
