Owner description: Melbourne Recital Centre comprises two of the finest acoustic spaces in the southern hemisphere, carefully crafted to present the best music the world has to offer. Drawing fundamental influence from the traditional box shape of European concert halls, Elisabeth Murdoch Hall is lined with striking plywood panels of Australian plantation Hoop Pine timber, designed to resemble the back of a beautiful instrument and provide greater acoustic intimacy across the 1000-seat auditorium. The superbly organic acoustics of the hall extend to the Salon, a uniquely intimate 150-seat space that can also act as a companion room to the hall. Comprising a series of diffusing timber panels with tessellated plywood faces tipped in and out to form a modulated wall and ceiling, Percy Grainger’s 1937 graphic score, Free Music No. 2 is inscribed across the surface to inspire players and audiences alike. Swing by, say hello and book tickets to a show. Discover why Melbourne Recital Centre is the Best Place to Hear beautiful music.

A simply beautiful building, with brilliant acoustics. A very intimate feel to the spaces. In part loved because the performance we saw was wonderful.

What a welcome addition to the theatre district. The ground floor has ample space to sit and relax....the bars sell sandwiches and light food and the auditorium is great...fine seating and accoustics. A fabulous place to see a concert.

A thoroughly wonderful recital venue with very helpful staff, superb seating and beautiful to look at in all its venues and a wonderful sound even from the small ensemble we heard.

this new music hall has great acoustics and comfortable seating. Visitors are likely to be able to buy tickets (not booked out much). Great way to spend an evening. No where nearby to eat really - so eat in town and catch a tram down.

The cultural capital of Australia has done it again. Acoustically excellent and centrally located, a performance at the Melbourne Recital Centre should be on your to do list
