Pope Joan is a cafe which manages to do things a little differently then most inner city cafe. The menu, and the presentation of the food is quite quirky as well as being of top quality. All of which makes a visit to this cafe interesting and enjoyable. Staff are friendly and efficient. Only draw back is that you might have to line up due to this places popularity.

Not just your typical bacon and eggs breakfast - an interesting range of options and I had difficulty choosing between the zucchini flowers stuffed with smoked salmon and the corn cakes but the zucchini flowers won.
Top quality and the atmosphere is very welcomng.
Skilled friendly and professional staff.

Unfortunately we never even got to try the food here!

On arrival we were told we'd have to wait for a table (which was fine by us) so we perched ourselves at the window (with some highstools and the papers). About 5 minutes later a staff member came over and asked us to go outside. I asked why and was told that the manager had asked us to wait outside.

We were so shocked that rather than question it we headed outside. A couple of minutes later another couple also came outside complaining of the same treatment!

After a few minutes we decided to just head down the road to another less pretentious cafe that didn't insist on making people wait outside (presumably to give a more robust impression - to passers by - of how busy the cafe was). Indeed, the fact that we were waiting outside was not an issue, it was the fact that after having settled inside at the window one of the staff members came and ordered us outside (notwithstanding that this request had not been made at the time we put our names down on the waiting list).

Before heading off I headed inside to let the management know that we were leaving and, in fairness, the manager apologised and indicated that there must have been some miscommuniation between himself and his staff.

Perhaps other diners can confirm whether they've had a similar experience here?!

just to be plain and simple...

DELICIOUS.

Attentive friendly service.

Highly suggest to try the Cuban sandwich (pulled pork) and as a dessert, you should try their jam donuts with a nice latte !!

The End.

I've visited Pope Joan on several occasions and have never been disappointed. It has a great combination of cosy inside tables, under cover outside tables, and those out in a back courtyard. Food is a cut above the rest, the service has always been prompt, and there are plenty of options for catch-ups big and small. Will definitely be making a return visit.
