We often visit the Curve Bar when we go to the theatre, and being regular theatre goers it's great to know we can rely on it. Curve Bar always has great food - don't expect to go there for a long romantic dinner, it's far more of a pre and post theatre bar with great sharing plates as well as individual choices. The standard of food is always very good, the service can be a little slow but the staff do realise that you are probably going to the theatre so will try their best. There are a few real tables when you walk in, but in general this is a place with more of a bar atmosphere so dining is often around the more casual sitting area. It has low lighting like a bar and this creates a good ambience as well.

It can get very busy just before and after the shows, so if you are in a hurry then get there early. It would be good if they could extend their champagne choices, we associate good champagne with the theatre - a good opera deserves an authentic champagne. You can have Pol Roger but that's really the only champagne choice.

I will always go back to Curve bar, I have never been disappointed by the food. It's a great meeting spot but as I said, get there early before the show or very soon after the show to ensure you get a seat.

Last week after the theater, a group from a visiting convention were assigned "supper" at the Curve Bar. Multiple "finger food" appetizers were served and not one was a treasure. Apparently pre-arranged by conference planners, we had no menu for choice. And since I cannot find the menu online, I cannot warn others what to avoid. One item, in particular, was far too salty. We had no utensils and dipping foods were limited to a first and only dip, since we also had no individual plates.

Dear stlski,

Thank you for your honest feedback.

The menu served was not from our a la carte menu, but was specific for the conference planners needs, and was arranged in a very short time.

The menu chosen by the conference planners was a canape menu, as they wanted guests to mingle. They also had a specific budget which we were required to work within.

Curve Bar is prodominately a pre-theatre dinner restaurant, and late night supper and cocktail venue, frequented by members of the artistic fraternity.

I agree that we should no have accepted a rushed booking by conference planners, as the expectation of guests often does not marry with the spend of the planners.

Positively, there was also an Australian oscar winner dining with friends and family on the same night, who thouroughly enjoyed the fine foods and drinks we prepared for them, as they always do when in Melbourne.

I would encorage you to return to Curve Bar with a smaller group and enjoy our regular fare.

Please bring your business card and we will buy your meals to prove that we are good at what we do.

Stopped here for dinner with family and 2 children on NYE (quite early) on way to kids fireworks. Wow the food was amazing. We ordered a share plate and mains and can not say one bad thing about any of the food. I had the crispy skin salmon and it was cooked to perfection as was the steak. We will be back next time we dine out in the city.

This is a great place to have a drink and/or a meal before a show, and then a desert or a drink after the show. Great atmosphere, with an informal feel to it. After the shows there is opportunity to rub shoulders with actors, musicians or theater staff. There is ample outside seating in the garden of the Art Center. The food is very good, and we enjoyed especially the deserts. Service is excellent, attentive and professional. The Curve Bar makes a visit to the theater more special.
