Ordered:
- spicey whiteing (not ordered but served and because it was rolled at the edges with deep frying it looked a little like calamari entree we HAD ordered)

- 45 min later the calamari finally arrived....reminded twice (entree size).
Nice, spicy but quite tough.
The highlight was the PEKING DUCK.
Very tasty, not at all as oily as duck can normally be. QUANJADE specialises in a particular style of preparation making it a little drier (but not dry).
Ask for extra scallions and sauce early otherwise the staff wait and you scrimp when making your pancakes up early in the meal.
We then had the Sichuan, spicey prawns. Very tasty but the Thai sauce was a little over bearing for the prawn flavours.

Overall, the meal was very nice.
I had a half bottle of Henschke blend, which wasn't perfect with the food but I really wanted to try the wine!!!
Average service is the only thing that really let the experience down. The long wait between courses and the muck up of the order took the edge off.

As a general reminder, if you've been seated and given menus before others have arrived, general etiquette is to take your order first.

We have been eating at Quanjude for about 12mths since we purchased an apartment in the building above the restaurant. Unfortunately the overall experience continues to fall. Tonight there were two of us, the bill was $160 for 2 entrees, 2 mains, rice, sparkling water and a bottle of wine. So not an inexpensive evening but the value continues to fall. The problem is mainly front of house, with poor and incomplete service, incorrect meals recorded/served, refresh towels served after the first dish is tabled, dishes tabled w/out serving spoons/forks, etc. Time for the Franchisor and the local management group to do some serious reviews ......... or see the value of their investment diminish!

We had dinner here recently. Nice atmosphere, good service and excellent duck - we have 4 between us!

Quite a good wine list. We had the Stefano Lubiano Pinot Noir which was an especially good match with the duck.

At first I found that the peking duck here wasn't the same as what I was accustomed to. It is less oily, hence tastes a bit dry. But it was very good nevertheless. On subsequent visits, I grew to like it for that reason, i.e. less oily! It taste the same as that in Quanjude in Beijing. Other dishes on the menu are generally very good. Just what we would expect from a restaurant of this calibre. Service is correct and business-like. Prices are on the high side. Overall, a fine establishment and a welcome addition to Melbourne's choice of fine chinese dining.
