This is the second time I have stayed here. Both times the reception staff have been efficient and helpful. I have had a studio twin bed room both times with kitchenette which has given us the option to either cook in the room or eat out.

One issue the second visit was our room was on about the 5th floor near a parking garage that had a beeping alert system for pedestrians walking past the entrance when a car came out... a little annoying as this was in operation all night. Thank goodness for ear plugs.

The room was clean and modern and in a central location. TV reception good. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Hello Belladog123

Thank you for taking the time to write and post your review. I am pleased to read that you have been well looked after by Guest Service during both stays. Having a kitchenette is certainly something many of our guests appreciate, as it means you don’t necessarily have to eat out every night. I will ensure that your feedback about the sound of the parking garage alert system is brought to the Residence Manager’s attention for further investigation. We would like to thank you for choosing to stay with us again and certainly hope that we’ll see you again next time you’re in Melbourne.

Kind regards

The Citadines on Bourke Street has good, if rather unexciting accommodation (with very limited kitchen equipment) - plus good views, but only if you pay the surcharge to be on the higher floors. However, it is run badly. For instance, we were there for several weeks and I used the gym daily - during the whole of our stay the water cooler was 'out of order' and an electric jug plus plastic jug, not always refilled, were the replacements. The shower in our room flooded every single day until we figured out that no-one had bothered to check it and get a plumber in to clear the drain for a very long time - such things should be checked before guests turn up rather than paying guests having to do the checking for you. The cleaners rarely came to our room before 2 in the afternoon and on one occasion only turned up after I came home feeling hot and tired at ten to five and telephoned reception, having found our room still a mess. I then went down to the gym to shower, as the cleaner was supposed to be coming to us and I didn't want to get in the way. There I found that no-one had bothered to fill the shower's soap bottle - the Citadines, by the way, is too stingy to provide soap and shampoo, having discovered that a bottle attached to the wall, containing a substance that is apparently both soap and shampoo simultaneously, is an easier way to approach the problem. When the cleaners did eventually turn up each day they often forgot to do the whole job - the rubbish would not be emptied, or the bedside table, on which tea had been splashed, would be left unwiped, or the basin, over which my husband had shaved, would be left uncleaned (I suspect this was the result of the fact that the cleaners were all foreigners and were probably being exploited - made to try to clean too many rooms in too short a space of time, perhaps for too little money). A dynamic management might hire twice as many people for half a day to clean, rather than letting a smaller staff drag out the job over a full day period - or else tell us we have to do it ourselves and cut the prices, in which case I would sort it all out before leaving in the morning, (or choose another place, that offered room cleaning in a timely manner). For the time being though, since they do create the expectation that they offer serviced accommodation, they ought to do it efficiently. Some of our party - quite a lot of us from the same organisation were housed in the Citadines for several weeks - thought that a really good management would have gone further and actually noticed that we were good solid customers and decided to offer us something extra - a morning newspaper on a daily basis delivered to our rooms, for example. These little thoughtful touches are completely absent at Citadines. It is basically okay but lacks flair. Our impression is that it is run by a huge corporation that has not had the intelligence to put a really bright, creative manager in charge on the ground. We also wonder how well the air conditioning might work in very hot weather

Hello ClangLondon,

Greetings from Citadines on Bourke Melbourne!

Thank you for staying with us recently and for sharing your feedback. While I wish you had had a better experience, it is feedback like this that permits us to learn and improve. We always strive hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience and it is apparent in this case that we fell short of your expectations.

Your feedback has been shared with the respective department managers for immediate investigation and rectification, and please be assured that your experience does not reflect our usual high standard. If you would afford us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that your room will be in appropriate working order on your next stay. I am aware that the above does not explain your experience, nor does it excuse the inconveniences you were caused.
The toiletry dispensers were introduced as part of our green initiative to reduce the volume of plastic waste for the benefit of the environment. I do acknowledge that this is not to everyone’s liking, and is currently under review by our senior management team.

Finally, regarding the water cooler in the gym, unfortunately we were awaiting some spare parts which caused a delay in its repair. We will take on board your comments in relation to the jugs of water which were an interim measure.

Thank you once again for sharing your concerns, and I hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in future. If I may be of any assistance with your future visit/s, please do not hesitate to contact me at bryan.loh@the-ascott.com, so that I can take personal care of your arrangements.

Yours sincerely,

Tried here for the first time recently and was very happy with the choice. Check in was fast and the service was good. Didn't eat here but had a few drinks at the bar with colleagues and couldn't fault it.
Car parking below was great, with enough room to park AND open the door! Unlike most of the city ones these days.
Rooms were clean and modern and if I had to pick something the lifts took a while to arrive, but nothing serious.
Breakfast was good but not amazing, but there are plenty of alternatives close by.
I will stay here again for sure.

Our experience at the Citadines on Bourke Melbourne from Aug 3 to 10 was simply great. Our first experience with Citadines in Shanghai two years ago was good, this is even better. The location is just fantastic, staff good, room spacious and clean. And small kitchen very useful. We will definitely use the Citadines again and would recommend our friends as well.

Stayed here with my partner for 4 nights in late July, here's the rundown:

Location couldn't get much better - situated in the heart of Melbourne's CBD right next to chinatown, and not too far from Flinders station (10 min walk).

We manage to grab a room on the 22nd floor (Studio Executive), which was modern, fresh and clean. Had an amazing view and was warm throughout the day, and really quiet at night. Great amenities as well, kitchenette was really useful, great TV and importantly a decent ipod dock. Wifi was decent as well.

Only downsides were minor - double bed was essentially two singles put together (but was massive) and shower didn't always run hot.

Service was good as well, booked us a skybus shuttle with no fuss and looked after our bags after checkout.

Overall a really enjoyable experience, would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Higher the room the better chance at a view (and probably quieter). No bowls in kitchenette!

We stayed here for 5 days, the rooms were lovely and modern, clean and comfortable. It was a bonus to have a dishwasher and the kitchen was well equipt. We found the wifi quite adequate and reasonably fast. The staff were very helpful and polite. However, just a couple of things to mention, we were on the 8th floor and we looked out on a brick wall, I guess we could have upgraded, but it would have been nice to have been given the option when we checked in, it was a very unpleasant view! The beds were an issue, as has been mentioned by numerous reviewers, the huge lump in the middle , where the beds have been put together , is very uncomfortable, you might as well be sleeping in separate beds !!! Also the water temperature in the shower runs hot and cold continuously. But all in all , this was a great place to stay, and I would recommend it.

Room Tip: Choose a higher floor than 8 , to avoid looking out onto a brick wall.

Hello Lisa P

Thank you for your recent review. I was happy to read that you found the rooms to be modern, clean and comfortable. Whilst we would love for everyone to have view, being so centrally located in the city its not possible. However we have noted your comment in regards to offering an upgrade on check-in and have implemented your suggestion, so next time you arrive this is something you will be offered!

I have shared your feedback regarding the bed and shower with the Residence Management team for review. I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay, and that you would recommend staying at Citadines on Bourke Melbourne. We hope to welcome you back, so that you can see the magnificent views of the city skyline.
