“Modern Hotel...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2010

We stayed at the Metropol for just one night as part of a work Christmas party in Crown. Upon arrival mid afternoon on Saturday we had to queue for approximately 25mins just to check in which I found very odd, and have never experienced anything like it before. The room itself was quite large and spacious, however was a little dark - the bathroom was very modern in design (not sure what I think of the toilet cubicle / glass door / fully tiled arrangement..!). I found the bed to be very comfortable, but I found the pillows were so fat i woke up with a very sore neck, but apart from that, it was nice having an actual doona rather than sheets and a thin cover on top.
The pool is amazing, stunning views of the city.

I would definitely stay again & recommend to those wanting to be be close to the Crown complex, as you don't have to venture out side to reach Crown - there are undercover walkways that take you across to Crown.

We only had dessert & coffee at Maze, which were, fine, nothing particularly special.

I just spent one night at Crown Metropol as we were attending a function at the Crown complex. The hotel is about one third of the price of Crown Towers, and just as good. There is an under cover walkway the whole way through the Crown complex.

Our room was terrific, on the 18th floor, quite large, spotlessly clean. A lot of reviews complained about lack of privacy in the bathroom. We didn't have a problem as there were actually screens to enclose the bathroom area.

The bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable, certainly as comfortable as any other five star hotel.

The only letdowns were the price of internet and movies - $16.95 to watch a movie is quite ridiculous in my view and internet was also very expensive, so we didn't bother for one night.

The worst letdown though was the buffet breakfast at Maze (a Gordon Ramsay restaurant). The continental selection was okay, but I felt the healthy cereal options were fairly limited, as was the fruit choice - no berries, sultanas, only melons.

The hot food was an absolute disaster. I ordered a poached egg - they were all precooked and just warmed up. By the time I returned to my table with my meal the egg was like a rock. The bacon and sausages were also stone cold. I returned the entire meal and tried again. This time my eggs were slightly runny, after I requested soft yolks. The sausages and bacon were still cold as were all other hot dishes. There didn't appear to be any steam coming out of any of the bain maries.

We had two dirty coffee cups on our table, and there were no staff around to replace them, so we just had to take two more from another table. No salt and pepper on any table around us, we needed to walk to the next section to get some, again no staff around. No newspapers were provided and no-one checked if we needed more coffee or anything else. None of our dirty dishes were removed during the entire meal. All this for $35.00 per head!

Highly recommend the hotel but stay away from Maze.

Just a quick review. Stayed here with my teenage daughter in a twin luxe room.

Very modern. As stated the bathroom is unusual but no a deal breaker.

Likes: Current magazines in room, sizable floor plan, awesome pool and gym, Gordon Ramseys Maze was a treat.

Dislikes: Not too many. Just found the place a bit 'dark', trying to put on make up was difficult and I had to take the mirror near the window to get any good light. Really disliked being told to pay $45 to check into the room earlier, even though it was ready. Never had that one before and we travel world wide. A little too far out if your in Melbourne for a shopping trip but if you have business in the south end youll love it.

Would highly recommend if your into ultra modern decor.

Got a great deal through Hotel Club. Fabulous room and the pool on the 27th floor is really something. Only down side ONE person on check-in, pretty poor for a hotel this swish!

Second stay at Metropol and as far as I'm concerned it is still great value. The location is fantastic and the rooms are magnificent. The bed was just perfect and the service provided by staff could not be faulted. One of the best pool/gyms in Melbourne. What made it better was a dinner at the recently opened Spice Temple in Crown which is close by. I will be back!!

We have just spent 1 night at Crown Metropol in a King Luxe Room. We absolutely loved the hotel. Check in was less than 3 mins it was so seamless. The staff were so helpful and our room had lights and aircon already on. Our bags arrived from valet within 10 mins. Tried the room service from maze for a pre dinner snack and we had tried to order the dips but were told they had run out (this was 5pm on a Sat night) We thought this was a bit strange so we settled for the bruschetta. It did take about 35-40 mins but we had a quick look at the pool area while we waited so it was not issue. The rooms are ultra modern and lovely. The bed is very comfortable. As i have read previously the bathrooms probably suit a couple more as they do over limited privacy with there screening features... But its a great bathroom. Only tip we would say is the taxi situation is a disaster. We tried to book a taxi from our room only to find the bell boy informing us there were already 15 ppl waiting for taxis and we should just come join the line. We did this and got sick of waiting so i just went onto the street and waved down a taxi. Buffet Breakfast in Maze is up there with the best. Service was excellent, food was fresh and lots to choose from. We will defiantly stay again at Metropol. Oh and the pool area is to die for its amazing with awesome views and a great plunge pool....

My partner and i stayed for one night. Upon check-in we were left waiting at the valet desk as a female staff member ignored us while she shouted at other staff to the point where we had to ask another staff member to help us. After that it was pretty much smooth sailing - check-in was easy, the rooms were lovely and modern, although they were quite small and the whole bathroom setup was a bit odd. I'm not sure how i'd feel about partition doors to the bathroom if i was sharing a room with someone other than my long-term partner! The pool was beautiful, almost worth staying there just for a swim!
