Having stayed at the other Crown hotels in Melbourne I agree that this is not at the level of Crown Towers but that is the point; it is not meant to be. For the market that this has been pitched, I thought it was a great hotel. I stayed two nights with three teenage children and we loved it. The room was large with two queen beds and a great view up the Yarra and out toward the bay. The pool is a standout. Located on the 27th floor it provides a great view of the city but has a great deck area with plenty of beds. I can't complain about the service as we ordered in room desserts one night and they arrived within 15 minute. Only small complaint is that apart from Maze (restaurant) there doesn't seem to be a lot more within the actual hotel but the Crown complex is a short covered walk away. I will definitely go back.

I recently stayed for two nights in a Twin Luxe Room with a friend on a girl's getaway weekend. The hotel is stylish & sleek, shiny and new and the rooms are the same and very comfortable as well.

The beds and pillows were very inviting and cosy, the housekeeping tidy, but the bathroom design leaves you scratching your head; very thin and transparent doors/walls to the shower and toilet leave you feeling exposed and every noise and action is shared between guests.

The major downside to this hotel which is hopefully teething problems (yet it has now been open for a fair period of time) is the service shambles encountered on check in, check out, valet parking and most appallingly during the breakfast service. Queuing becomes a routine habit. Check in and check out is very slow and protracted; and valet parking was pushed beyond its limit on check out time (25min wait on cars) with guests spilling from the foyer onto the footpath.

Breakfast at the Gordon Ramsey brand Maze restaurant was a joke. The food was of good quality and quantity but the queue both mornings (over half hour on one day) and the shoddy organisation and management left you with a very bewildering, uneasy experience and it was noticed by guests around us also. Perhaps Gordon Ramsey needs to return to give them a good revving up?!!

The staff we encountered were helpful, polite and nice to deal with but unfortunately the way they are managed leaves alot to be desired and is a real shame as it impacts on your overall outlook on what is a very beautiful and appealing hotel. At the moment with their opening special rates and based on the comments i heard (while queuing) i believe they are seeing alot of guests who could be possible return guests but who unfortunately will not return to the hotel due to the mentioned service problems. I would be a return guest gladly if they get themselves sorted out!!

We stayed here midweek - as a surprise from my husband and overall an enjoyable experience. However I have to agree with the other reviewers that it lacked the wow factor of the other two crown hotels (have stayed there a few times). It reminded us a lot of the south wharf Hilton. Great location and easy 5 minute walk to the main Crown building and restaurants.

The rooms were comfortable, but very corporate - no tub and the room/bathroom better suited to the intimate couple or business traveller. Our luxe king had a view of the carpark, so try get a city view. It was a quick visit so unfortunately can't comment on breakfast and other services. Cleanliness was an issue - there was someone else's hair in the toilet cubicle corner and the top sheet scratchy.

Based on all of this if you can afford the extra $50-$100 just stay at Crown Towers.

We stayed for a birthday treat and booked via travelmate website, getting a package which included 28 access. I telephoned prior to arrival to enquire about parking and spoke to a really helpful man, who in conversation, discovered we were staying for a birthday celebration and when we arrived in the room, there was a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine - nice touch!! The room was very clean, reasonable size and nice decor with comp magazines, ipod docking, travel plug. ( fab as im from the uk) We were confused when we arrived as it said 28 guests go to bell checkin desk - no signs anywhere but i asked and a staff member showed us to the lift and we went up to 28. Our booking was a little misleading as it said pre - dinner drinks 6-9pm however it is only complimentary from 5.30 - 7pm and we were even charged for the glass of sparking wine they offered us on arrival!! I had a massage at the spa ( booked many weeks before) which was divine and also went for a swim on Sun, which was lovely! Breakfast was good;- just dont have the watery scrambled eggs - yuk! Overall enjoyed our stay and would go back. Our friends had a nightmare though when the next room closed some doors off and their room disappered and they spent an hour trying to get into their room at 2am!!! The hotel could only offer to take their car parking fee off their bill, which i feel is very poor for a 5 star hotel. We both couldnt believe this could happen and not sure if i would bring children to stay, who could close these doors and end up locking their parents out???? Also be careful, as on checkout i nearly got charged $110 for 28 access, which had already been paid for when i booked!!!

Whilst Crown Metropol was seemingly well styled and deisgned, it really lacked that extra little bit you expect when you stay at anything under the Crown Casino banner.

We had a twin room that was somewhat roomy. The bathroom whilst trying to be stylish and modern was terrible. There was no sound protection through the Japanese styled doors so any shower or toilet noise was audible throughout the entire hotel room.

The lifts were constantly busy and were often full.

The pool area was fantastic, the best pool I've seen in Melbourne at a hotel however it was often over populated, maybe some extra space would be good? The gym was also fantastic but again a bit bigger would of been better.

Although the above paints a negative image of metropol, it is a great place to stay.. Maybe more suited to a families with young children than a couple or younger travellers.

Husband and I stayed at new Crown Metropol on Sunday 13th June for one night. I booked through Wotif for an opening special with King Luxe room with breakfast for 2 in Maze and Valet parking. We were a little apprehensive after reading some early reviews but have noticed reviews have been improving. Well, we pulled up at a very busy time and we were met by an extemely pleasant Valet who took our keys and wanted to know if we were right with our luggage. As it was so busy we decided to take our luggage with us. Checkin was busy but they were extremely efficient at getting us through, we didn't wait long at all. The woman checking us in was so lovely, told us all we needed to know about lift and facilities. They even sent us up a bottle of bubbly for our anniversary. our room was very spacious with beautiful fuul length windows, we were on the 26th floor and it was beautiful to see 2 hot air balloons floating over the city when we woke up on monday morning. The bathroom is well equipped, the linen is crips and new of course, there is nice lcd television that is easy to watch from bed. The location is terrific if you like the southbank restaurants or want to be near casino or the convention centre. There is also the DFO at Southwharf which adds some shopping in. We found getting to the hotel very easy from the Freeway in Footscray Rd and around Flinders onto Spencers and we were suddenly at the hotel. The pool area is beautifully done, gorgeous deckchairs to relax on. Breakfast was fairly standard fair that you get at other hotels, the maitre de was friendly. The waiting staff do their job but are not over friendly, we were there early so it wasn't like they didn't have time to chat, other places we have stayed the wiat staff show more interest in your stay. Overall we loved the hotel and would love to stay again but I think at their normal rates it will be out of a lot of peoples reach. the photos on their site are a very accuarate display of the hotel.

This new hotel was fantastic. Really clean, contemporary interiors, fantastic location and friendly staff.

Best Points:
Location - Great walk to shops or restaurants
Staff - Friendly and always around to ask questions etc
Rooms - Modern, clean, big bed and fantasic robes
Isika Day Spa - one of the best day spas in melbourne

Worst Points
No bath - something I love in a flash hotel
Shower Pressure - really bad, had hot tap on all the way and no cold but only got luke warm, water and a really soft pressure
Crowded - due to just opening there was a huge line at both check-in and check-out times
Customised service - upon check-in we were asked what newspaper we would like delivered, but after asking this question we never recieved the selected paper one any of the mornings we stayed.
Pool - we were dying to get a swin in during our stay but the pool area was full each time we went down and lots of kids splashing around.

Overall, a good stay - crown towers much better but if travelling for business this hotel is good.
