We have stayed @ Promenade many times in the past few years but decided to give Metropol a go, having read so many good reviews on this site. Our arrival was greeted warmly by ?Luke & bags were taken up to the room. The room was on the 25th floor with city views - as requested for a birthday celebration - with a complimentary bottle of wine in an ice bucket & Lindt chocs but the city view unfortunately included a car park. The room itself was nice with a very comfortable bed but 4 extremely soft pillows that felt like they disintegrated when laid upon. The bathroom is a slightly strange arrangement with an Asian style slider to close-off from the main room which doesn't completely allow privacy. A fine arrangement for long married couples such as ourselves but I would think if you are in a newer relationship - could be a bit embarrassing! The shower is a good size but smaller than those @ Promenade - as they have utilised the extra space for a separate toilet - ours also had a missing door stop, so that the shower door banged on the glass of the separate toilet. Tiles in the shower were also mouldy in the grouting. The area around the sink was dirty in the corners with built-up grime plus the main room itself was dusty, dirty with food debris (we ate out) and the bed base had holes/rips in it. In saying all that - it was quite a nice room that was a little tired & let down by bad house-keeping (soap was not replenished at all & we had to ask). We ate at The Hive Kitchen & Bar and had nice leisurely breakfasts with good service - in saying that we ate after 10am each day & overheard a small group of older ladies complaining very loudly that they had waited 1 hour for their food. On the second day of our three day stay we approached reception to ask if we could have newspapers delivered - this particular staff member was unfriendly ?Michelle & very dismissive although newspapers were then delivered as requested. We used the pool every morning which is a very nice area although ?slightly smaller than Promenade's pool. Also the gym has a nice city view & the wet sauna & vitality pools in the changing rooms are superb. Whilst the review may seem harsh, it is an honest comparison & we did very much enjoy our stay & have to agree wholeheartedly with the review re parking - the valet parking crew are lovely with a refreshing welcoming attitude for everyone. To retrieve our bags however was a bit of a mish-mash & we were advised to go into the holding room & 'just grab our bags' - good job we are honest as we could have taken anything which wasn't checked! For the amount paid - in both hotels - we would suggest Promenade but maybe we were unlucky & the most disappointing thing was that we were not asked if we enjoyed our stay & neither were there any customer satisfaction forms to be filled in. Perhaps management would like to comment?
