We have stayed at the Crown Metropole a couple if times and we love it! The pool is definately the best in Melbourne and it excellent for small children. The rooms are great (i recommend the city luxe king room) this gives plenty of space for a porta cot and our 4 year of slept on the chase. Being so close to South Bank gives you a huge choice of restaurants (both Crown & South Bank). we will definately stay here again

Room Tip: City Luxe King has plenty of space

We had arrived 4 hours before the check in time and inquired as to whether it would be possible to get an early check in as we had traveled on a night flight and did not get any sleep, but was told that we would be charged if we wanted to check in early. My partner and I decided to have breakfast and explore the Crown complex, though the only things open at that time was the casino and a couple of f&b outlets.

The decor of both the hotel and the rooms were beautiful. It emanated a very luxurious and trendy feel to the hotel.

For the location and amenities it offers (ie pool), I believe this is value for money. Some might find it pricey but in comparison to other hotels, a little extra $$ is worth it. I very much like their toiletries (that's shampoo, conditioner and lotion) and generally this place smells really nice and clean. The shower pressure is good and the bathroom and toilet are clean. The pool may look small but quite enjoyable, clean and surprisingly ample. The breakfast buffet have your usual offerings but quite yummy and satisfactory. The room is spacious, clean and comfortable although the pillows are quite big and therefore uncomfortable (even for my 6'1 husband). The tv have HDMI facitlity and the radio have an iphone/ipad docking. It has a connecting bridge to the main Crown Casino building where you will find a small fast food area and a short walk to the cinema - very convenient. The reception lounge is big and accommodating. All staff we met were quite pleasant, courteous, helpful and friendly. Overall our 2-night stay in this hotel was quite satisfactory.

Room Tip: Ask for a city view if they have any.

This hotel is a true 5 star hotel, with all the modern facilities and services. Centrally located to the Crown complex and shops, the hotels service was the best i have experienced, they attended to my queries within minutes! The reception, cleaners and other hotel staff made you feel at home. I would recommend this hotel for a city stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor with city views, lower floors looks over car park

I took my mum to melbourne as neither of us had been. We enjoyed our stay at the Crown Metropol very much, and would have no issue recommending it to others. The hotel is lush, with super-modern decor and all the amenities youd expect. Conceirge was more than happy to hold our bags as we arrived a few hours prior to check in, then they smsed us once the room was ready (4 hours before official check-in time!!!) and the bags were waiting in our room for us when we got there! The luxe twin room was a more than ample size for 2, we were on the 19th floor and the view from the entire wall of glass was actually pretty nice, despite being lots of concrete mainly. We didnt get room service cause it was too expensive. The minibar was small and completely full of stuff they want you to buy, which we didnt want, so I left a note to the staff and the next day it had been completely emptied so we could use the fridge for our own stuff, which was great! Beds were super comfy, aircon control was handy, and the robes made you feel like a big grizzly bear :) I didnt like the pillows though. The infinity pool was amazing looking and also had an amazing view - wow!
I did have a couple of gripes - first of all the lack of lighting! Despite 3 lamps, a desk light, bar light, bathroom lights, entry light, and personal reading lights, the room remained quite dark, which was a pain for putting on makeup!
My second gripe was no free wi-fi - this should be standard by now, and there was free wi-fi pretty much everywhere else I went in Melbourne.

Room Tip: If you want a good view get a high room. Ask for a room about 5 rooms away from the elevator otherw...

We've booked a room 2 months in advance to accommodate 4 people (family suite) and required specifically a non-smoker unit. But when we arrived, we've been told that there was no non-smoking room available for 4 and that we had to stay in a smoking one. Of course this is not bearable for non-smoking people, and when we told the staff (including the manager) the answer was "the smoking/non smoking criteria is not guaranteed": how can such a criteria can't be guaranteed in 2012? it is such a deal breaker! The only solution they found is to squeeze us 4 in a 2 bedroom with only one king size bed plus one sleeping on a day sofa (!) and they brought a portable bed (like the one you use for kids). A backpacker would have been more comfortable. Believe it or not but the other "solution" was to make us pay for a second 2 pax bedroom although they should have upgrade us into 2 bedrooms without charging us. That's what you expect from an hotel at this level. Not saying that the staff turned very unfriendly in managing this situation. Also they never brought the additional towels required for 4 and we had to share the one already in the room (for 2). In a nutshell, this kind of hotel lives on big groups or foreigner coming for the casino and relies more on volumes than quality customer- relationship. Next time I go to Melbourne, I'll try something smaller. Definitely not recommended!

Room Tip: Make sure you get them to confirm you have a non-smoker room if you do not want to then waste an hou...

The Crown Metropol overall was a great experience. We booked a Luxe Twin Room, the room was small as we had a family of 4 but was nicely set out and done. We were on level 10 and the views were nice but mainly obstructed by buildings. Aim for a higher floor!! The hotel pool was breathtaking, set on level 27 high above the city the infinity pool was beautiful but always completely full of people especially noisy young children. The pool area is nice and has lots of lounges etc.. The pool would be amazing at night with the view of the city but unfortunately closes at 9 and it doesn't get dark in Melbourne till about then. The bar up the top was nice as well, overpriced, but nice set out and had amazing views being on the highest level of the hotel, Unfortunately under 16's aren't allowed in after 7 pm.. and half the time the 28 was booked out for a function, so we only had one visit. One bad side about the hotel was the room key cards, you need them to go up the lift, and ours only sometimes worked after trying about 15 times and sometimes didn't work at all (all 3) including trying to open up the room! I had read other reviews about this happening as well, so I went down to get the keys re cut and was served by a disappointed, annoyed looking staff member who eventually re cut the keys. Overall the Hotel is beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will hopefully be returning in the new year.

Room Tip: higher the better.
