Stayed 3 nights recently in a room on 15th floor with 2 queen beds. There were 3 of us for 1 of the nights and no problem with size of room. Reading about Bathroom was a little concerned prior to checking in. The bathroom has sliding doors that close it off from bedroom however if you wanted the openess dont close doors. The toilet and shower doors can be closed for privacy. Really, there were no problems with bathroom what so ever and dont really know why people complaining. The bed was very comfortable. Amenities excellent and first class quality. Magazines in all rooms which was a nice touch. This is a reasonable new modern hotel and minimalistic in hallways etc but really, you are walking to your room and do you stop and look at paintings, pot plants etc. Had access to 28 for a couple of nights and if you can get this included in your room rate, it is excellent. Views are fabulous and have a beautiful Gas fire which is beautiful to sit around. The bar opens about 5.30 with free drinks and nibbles and access to free breakfast. The breakfast had all you require with hot dishes, the best muesli and good selection of cereals, fruit and breads/pastries. They can also cook you selected dishes in the menu. The location is easily accessible to Casino, Exhibition Centre, Southbank,
DFO South wharf. If going into the city, the tram stop is just outside door and takes about 5 minutes. Southern cross station is a 7 minute walk. Lovely little restaurants in South Melbourne's Clarendon St which is nice 10 minute walk. There is a shopping area linking Metropol to Crown Casino which has several nice shops and so many restaurants in Crown Casino I couldnt start to list them. We didnt eat at Maze restaurant as had read bad reviews however we did have room service one night which was quick and reasonable priced for the burgers and tasted good. We dined at a Buffet called Kitchen in crown that I wouldnt recommend as very crowded and noisy. Food was ok. We also ate a couple of other restaurants and a bar near the Cinema which was very good and great value. The pool area is fabulous and have day beds to lay around on enjoying the wonderful views of Melbourne. The pool itself is great too. We were there for a birthday celebration and they sent Champagne and Chocolates to the room which was very appreciated. If i visit Melbournee just to shop, then maybe would stay a little closer to the city centre but will be back to Crown Metropol without doubt, and will try to get 28 included in the price. Crown Towers is a little more luxurious but considering the price difference, Metropol would be my preference.
