“very basic, far better hotels around”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2013

this is a fairly basic property with fairly ordinary service, less then comfortable beds and overpriced for what it has to offer
The hotel is excellent location if you are wanting to go to Etihad stadium but otherwise located in a business area where there is nothing to impress
The staff are doing their job and that is it, There was no friendliness or welcoming feeling from staff.
there are many better options available in the area at a competitive or better price

Room Tip: stay somewhere else, you can do far better with searching other properties on Wotif.com and get far...

Booked 3 nights at the Travelodge Docklands. (Had friends staying there for a family celebration). Booking was over the phone, they were happy to accept the Entertainment Book rates. "Booking in" was even easier. We arrived on an early flight, getting to the Hotel at 09:00. They allocated us a room and we were able to have a nap before hitting Melbourne.
Only one downside, service was not offered to our room until the afternoon, and we were catching some ZZZZ. We needed to ask for towels etc, and they arrived promptly.
The chairs/lounges in the foyer were filthy, so much so that I was reluctant to sit on them. They need a good clean, if not replacing .

Room Tip: Take home message: Leave the "make up our room " tag on the door in the morning. Cleanlin...

Dear Julie H

Thanks for taking the time to review Travelodge Docklands.

I'm glad you were pleased with your stay. With regards to the lobby furniture - the chairs have now gone. They did wear out much faster than expected and are being replaced with new furniture.

We hope you come back and stay again to see the difference.

Kind Regards

We stayed in a king suite for $80 a night which was a fantastic price through a wotif 3 hour sale, parking was good value for $20 a day, you could come and go as you pleased, downfall was it was a trek to get to the hotel from the carpark. Hotel is a great location near the stadium, if this is what you are staying for.
The room was clean but a bit small compared to other king suites we have stayed in. We requested our dishes to be cleaned and towels changed by placing a card on the door, this was not done, when we returned to our room at 8pm after a a phone call to the lobby they replaced crockery and towels within 10 minutes. The staff we kind and very helpful.
The only real downfall was we left 3 dresses in the wardrobe, phoned the afternoon of checking out and only received 2 dresses when we collected them 2 days later. Still chasing the whereabouts of the dress with the hotel.

This hotel can best be described as you get what you pay for! Have stayed more than 10 times this year and everytime the rate has been very good (<$150). If you need to be in Docklands there's no other closer hotel. Luckily for it, this hotel is relatively new and the rooms and decor are somewhat 'cool and groovy'. The restaurant (and room service) must be avoided at all cost - don't even do it after a late night check in! The tables and layout of the eating area is like a cool university dorm or a boarding school! Tables lined in rows - sharing your food with other guests who are, presumably, taking advantage of the location and good price of this hotel (and no doub thinking the same thing you are about the table arrangement!). The food isn't much better and astoundingly charged at a 5 star price. Room service is terribly slow, expensive and poor quality. My advice if you chose this place would be to spend as little time as possible in the room and you won't notice its shortcomings and be very happy with the overall value - assuming you get a good price!

I stayed here for a week on business that my company had booked, my wife accompanied me for the stay also. I had read the reviews before coming here and was even more disappointed.
The only good thing was the location been close to etihad stadium! It would be fine if you were watching something at the stadium and just needed a cheap bed for the night.
There was really bad pressure in the shower and felt like only a trickle coming out of there, it was hot though.
Had the most uncomfortable nights sleep here as there were 2 single beds pushed together, after phoning reception I was told they don't have mattress toppers to put on the bed.
We where on the top floor and of a night about 11pm there was a loud generator or air conditioning like noise that kept us awake.
When I did phone reception the phone rang out 4 times with no one answering. After about half an hour I phoned again and was able to get through.
Overall I would not stay here again for a long stay.

Dear

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback about Travelodge Docklands.

I am dissapointed you didn't have a good nights sleep. The beds we use are all new Sleepmaker Hotel Supreme King Zip beds - not two singles pushed together.

Please feel free to contact me directly should you wish to discuss your experience in more detail.

This is not a fancy hotel but for the money we paid we could not complain. Ok, we could complain about breakfast but that's about all. We paid about $123 on a Wotif mystery deal, and checking out discounted prices you could get online for the same night, that saved us about $10. Wow, thanks Wotif !
The room itself was spotless and new, quite small compared to what we normally get, with a comfortable enough bed and a doona that kept us exactly the right temperature. There was a slight sewer smell in the bathroom, maybe because we were on a high floor, easily fixed with a wet facecloth over the vent. I know it's old school, but I still like to see a dvd player so i can play my own disks and not be up for $15 to watch one movie (or $25 unlimited per 24 hours). Do you even get dvd players in Melbourne Hotel rooms anymore ? Last place we stayed (Grand Hotel Melbourne, in 2011) had one, but that was more like an apartment hotel. And twice the price.
Location is excellent if you want to go to the footy at Etihad Stadium, it's practically across the road. Though it is at the back end of town for anything else. We'd prefer Southbank area or in the heart of town, but as mentioned, this was a mystery deal. I guess, though not exactly close, it's handy enough to Crown Casino, but we don't go there.
As we already had Myki cards, travel in and out of the Central Business District was a breeze. A short walk (up a lot of stairs) and across a pedestrian bridge and you are at Southern Cross station. If you like a bit of exercise, you could walk all the way in to wherever you wanted to go, but clever use of Myki makes it a cheap to just catch the train to Flinders St station (about $3.50), or other city stops. By "clever", I mean if going in at night, leaving after 6.00 pm means your ticket lasts all evening for the one fare, i.e you travel back home for free. And when we went for a little shopping in the morning, keeping the outing under 2 hours meant only one fare as well. There's a free tram that runs from not far away, but you have to plan for the schedule, and it's a circuitous route.
The room itself, and the Hotel location were very quiet. Being where it is, not much of a view, but the view from the room we had was ok. Could even get a tiny glimpse of far-away ocean. I figure the view at the other end (eg room 1213) would be a little more interesting.
Parking was a very reasonable $20 and you could go in and out as many times as you liked (getting validation each time). Meant we could drive up to Harbour Town and Costco for a look. As the $20 was for 24 hours, and check in is at 2.00 pm, we could leave the car there after we checked out at 11.00 am. Worked out well for our little shopping trip.
Along with the cheap room price and cheap parking, room service and mini bar prices were very reasonable, which was great to see. Breakfast was only $14 if you booked it the night before. Breakfast... the only disappointment.
Look, for $14 per person I really shouldn't complain, but I look forward to my hotel breakfasts and this one just wasn't up to scratch. To be fair, we usually pay around $30 for a Melbourne Hotel breakfast, but even at $14, I was still a tiny bit disappointed. Especially as in the lift, there are advertisements for the Travelodge breakfast that show pictures of FRESH FRUIT and PASTRIES !!! Well, there were NO pastries, and NO fresh fruit. I wasn't expecting much for my $14 breakfast, but after seeing the pictures in the lift, I was at least expecting fresh fruit and pastries. The eggs and pancakes were about McDonalds standard, with a very commercial, fake taste to them, but the bacon was good and they had nice vanilla yoghurt, hash browns, toast and spreads. Coffee was good enough.
So if you are looking for a cheaper place to stay, close to the footy, definitely consider Travelodge Docklands. I'd give it 3 1/2 stars if I could, but TA doesn't allow it.
Tip: grab a few discount dockets at the tourist info stand near reception. And if you are planning to go to Skydeck at night, go to Lui bar instead, and spend the price of admission on drinks. You will get almost one cocktail ! But it's worth it. Great mojito's, great ambience, great decor, and a great view. We just walked in and got a table, but noticed many were reserved. I'd still chance it.
Oh, and a big 2 thumbs up to the staff. Every staff member we spoke to (quite a few, as it happened) was polite, smiling and helpful. Whoever is hiring/training these young folk is doing a bang up job.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking Southern Cross station may give better views, but also may be a little noisier. Ro...

Not a four star as advertised, more of a 3.5 star. Rooms are comfortable, although there was a bit of street noise from the adjacent roadway. Walking distance to Southern Cross and Etihad and not too bad a walk to the centre of the CBD. Quality is good, not great but price was right so suppose it was good value.
