Stayed here one night after being overseas on our honeymoon.

Check in was quick, we had a studio room which was small but perfect for one night.

We had a bottle of sparkling in our room which was a nice surprise.

Great location, we were able to walk up the road and do a bit of shopping on Chapel Street.

Beds were very comfy!!

Only negative was we went to use some of the cutlery and plates etc and they were dirty, we just washed them up before we used them.

Would stay here again :)

Have been wanting to stay at the Art Series hotels for a while now and The Olsen lived up to my expectations :) The rooms... I stayed in a deluxe studio suite... were spotless, a great size and very well layed out including the bathroom. The king size bed was super comfortable and got a great nights sleep. I got room service for dinner and the service was great, quick and the food was delicious and not overpriced. Also had breakfast at Spoonbill in the morning and that was also excellent and had great coffee. The staff were all superb. Friendly, informative and willing to help with any queries or requests. Amazing location! Chapel St at your feet. Great shops, cafes and also Prahran markets which were great and if you need to go to the city trams were going straight down Chapel and also South Yarra train station is practically around the corner. Well done to everyone at The Olsen cant wait to try the other Art Series hotels and also stay at The Olsen again.

The Olsen hotel is a much reviewed hotel and I can only concur with all positive reviews written, it's located well at the more quiet northern part of busy Chapel Street with great views if you get a higher floor room. The only silly thing that comes to my mind other placement of the LCD TV on the wall just above the desk.. This shows you how far I have to reach to find something to complain :-)
Tons of eateries around the hotel allow you to book just accommodation and puic transport is just 100 m either north or west.. Great hotel, will return to try the steakhouse

They don't miss the little things. Food great, location awesome and the rooms are really cool particularly the bathrooms. I like that the windows open and there is fresh air available as many hotel rooms get stuff and are so reliant on air conditioning.

Room Tip: All rooms are great, there isn't a bad one!

Probably the best of the Art Series Hotels. Easier to get into with the car, better parking and the art is not so out there. Try the room service Beef Burger and wedges very Yum. As per normal bed is excellent as per Rydges standard. Staff very helpful and overall very enjoyable. On recommendation of the staff we tried Two Birds One Stone Cafe for breakfast, fantastic coffee and breakky.

As a regular contributor on Trip Advisor we are pleased that you have given us some of your feedback. It's always great when we have guests who have tried all three of the Art Series Hotels; they are all very unique in their own right. Our room service is produced by the hotel's restaurant; Spoonbill, and the burger is one of the better options. Next time you are in, come and try one of the tacos with a cool drink. Thanks again for your comments, we really appreciate it. We hope to see you again soon when you're next due to explore South Yarra and the surrounds.

I certainly won't complain about the look of the hotel, and generally the service was quite friendly, but we did have a few issues with our stay this past weekend.

There were small but noticeable things that irked us, such as being told that either Visa or American Express would have an extra credit card fee applied (something I expect from a lower class of hotels), or when we ordered a side of avocado with an otherwise average breakfast and received an actual sliver of avocado that would cost $4.

The more unfortunate situation was when I had just arrived in the room and was doing some work on my laptop when suddenly one of the light fixtures fell out of the ceiling and proceeded to dangle there. A bit freaked out by the idea of live wires hanging in my room, I called reception that Thursday evening and they said they'd send someone right up. Never happened. It was a busy weekend (and I had assumed housekeeping might report it as well), so the next chance I found to say something about it was Saturday morning at 10am, when I stopped by the front desk and they were shocked that no one from maintenance had come by, and assured me that someone would attend to it that day.

In case you can see where this is going, let's cut the story short and summarise that when I checked out on Sunday morning there still hadn't been any attention given to a light hanging out of my ceiling. The staff at reception feigned embarrassment that no one had ever responded to my repeated requests for assistance, but that was about it.

Very disappointing, and I've had better hotel experiences in Melbourne for similar prices that seem to cover things like credit card surcharges, reasonable amounts of food, and basic room maintenance requests. I thought The Olsen looked nice and I love the Chapel St location, but I'm not convinced it's being managed particularly well.

We spent 4 nights at this hotel and was so impressed with the automatic upgrade and complimentary champagne for our anniversary. The staff were super friendly and the interior design was simply stunning. Our king bed was super comfortable and we felt we were living in an art gallery with the echo of John Olsen's work even in our shower! The location was perfectly located for food choices, a 2 minute walk to the tram to the city and yet a quiet location. The bar/restaurant has a very funky and clever interior design and it was special just to be sitting and relaxing having a meal or drink. Loved, loved loved it!

Room Tip: We stayed on the 8th floor facing Chapel Street away from the lifts and there was no noise

Thank you for taking the time to review The Olsen Hotel. I'm pleased that we could play a small part in making your anniversary a special one. We try and do our best to make these type of occasions memorable. A bottle of bubbles and a great room always help to kick it off. Great to hear you enjoyed dining in Spoonbill. It's not your typical hotel bar and restaurant, however not being the same as the others gives it a nice feel and vibe. Finally, thank you for mentioning John's artwork. Dr Olsen is the star of our hotel and his works certainly light up the rooms and the hotel as a whole.
