It's a bit hard to find, but Cube Hotel is a great place to stay. It's new and has a good vibe. Rooms have a different feel to the standard boring hotel rooms. Our balcony was about 3m long and had a good view of city skyline. Balcony wide enough to stand on but you wouldn't sit out there as it's too narrow. The city is right there - 50m away and that was perfect. Only slight hassle was no parking, but you can park just around the corner at the Wesley church. $12 day or $7 a day on weekends. If you're arriving Friday for the weekend, pay by the day and you'll save a fair bit of money.

There is a mini kitchen with microwave, cooking utensils and dishwasher. There were 2 of everything in the cutlery and crockery count. There was a very amusing list of the cost to the guest of replacing any missing or broken items. Eg., one chinese porcelain spoon $10! One teaspoon $10! Bedhead $400. The shower screen was a bargain at $500. Entertainment provided by way of this list. There was a big TV with limited channels.
Supremely comfortable bed. Bathroom well sized. Why don't hotels have toilet brushes any more?
Extremely well soundproofed. Heaps of storage space in the room.
The cafe/breakfast area downstairs looked relaxing and had a good menu and good prices but we didn't try it.
Service at reception was hit and miss. Friendly and helpful but didn't know if there was a spare Nokia phone charger, didn't know where a loan umbrella might be - nothing major. We were allowed to take our bicycles up to the room to put on the veranda - the receptionist wasn't sure about this one but we were very happy about it and would return to this hotel just because they let us do that. Thanks to the nice staff member for this.

If I had anything to complain about it would be the volume on the TV .Chanel 7 and 9 were just audible. The other stations were good.
The location of this place is perfect with Melbourne Central and the shot tower being two blocks away. The Bourke St Mall is within walking distance.I also went to the Museum of Melbourne and saw Titanic 3D and then saw the artifacts expo. This is located in Carlton Gardens near the expo hall also within walking distance. There is plenty to see and do in Melbourne indoors and outdoors as the weather can change very quickly one day it can be hot and sunny and the next day it can be freezing with rain as I found out.
The location of this place is also good because I learnt every back laneway and shortcuts to get to places.Im definately staying here again on my next Melbourne visit and I highly recomend this place to anyone visiting Melbourne.

Basic apartments with small kitchenette. Clean and modern.
One lift only though and this was pretty slow. No washing machine or laundry facilities in apartments.
Overall good for the price at $99 a night!

If you like to stay 4 1/2 star but want the convenience of an apartment, which allows you to have a "live in the city" experience, you cannot go past Cube. We have stayed here twice now and have been impressed both times with the friendliness of the staff in particular, Ubay and the convenience of the location. For someone who hates going on holiday and not having our king size bed, this is a treat and it is comfortable. In April our teenage children stayed too and we took a Twin bed room for them, which worked very well. The convenience of the kitchenette allows for Queen Victoria Market snacks and breakfast to be had in your room. Having the balcony allows for fresh air and many rooms have lovely views of the city. You can literally walk the whole of the city from the apartments once you master the many laneways to Chinatown, across town to Woolworths in QV, shopping in Melbourne Central, Bourke Street Department Stores, Collins Street and Flinders laneways. Theatres are just 5 or 10 minutes away by foot. For Art lovers NGV and Ian Potter Gallery a more leisurely walk or a tram ride down Swanston Street. There are many restaurants close by with Chinatown less than 5 minutes, Greek District on Russell Street 5 minutes, Lygon Street 15 minutes by foot, a great noisy bar called Trunk on Exhibition cnr Little La Trobe, and an excellent Vietnamese on Swantston near Little Bourke at Vietnamese Noodle House. After hours the best kept secret is Bennet's Lane Jazz club in the laneway next to Exploration Lane, be early to get a seat. We always travel with a laptop to keep in touch with business and the internet works well and is fast. We come to Melbourne at least once a year and have previoulsy stayed in the Novotel on Collins and now would not stay anywhere else but Cube!

The Cube Serviced Apartments are a new block of apartments and there is still a little construction happening in the surrounding area. This however did not affect mine and my partners stay here for 3 nights in November 2009. The room was very comfortable and a great size. The bathroom was lovely and spacious.
These apartments have have amazingly good deals for any length of stay.
Desk staff were helpful and stored our bags all day as we had an evening flight back to Sydney.
We go to Melbourne a few times a year and we will stay at the cube every time from now on. It was fantastic for people who frequent the Melbourne area.
