Stayed in a King Studio Room - very modern, great bed and nice facilities. Is very small for an "apartment" but great size for a "hotel room" with the added benefit of being able to cook for yourself if you want to save on expense. Only paid the amount I would expect to pay for a hotel room that usually doesn't have those facilities. Being able to stand on the balcony for some fresh air was good. Didn't have breakfast there so can't comment on that. Location very good, close to China Town, walking distance to most things at the La Trobe St end of the city (Markets etc).

Staff were very attentive and were able to leave luggage there after checkout till later in the day.

No hesitation in recommending this hotel for overnight or short stays.

I stayed ten nights at Fraser Place during the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. I was upgraded to a room with a view west including several Melbourne architectural gems. The room has pretty much everything you'd need though could do with an easy chair or sofa. It's a bit small for a long stay but in excellent condition and impeccably maintained. Internet booking was easy, with confirmation email a few days prior and follow up email. I had no issues with service though the staff didn't have a good knowledge of Melbourne. Fraser Place was perfectly located for the festival and is well placed generally, close to entertainment, transport, cages, restaurants etc.

Wonderful stay, good location, helpful staff...value for money. Highly recommended. Room was newly refurbished and clean. Comfortable bed and lots of pillows :-). Minor improvement, they should consider for daily housekeeping even during weekend and public holiday.

Fraser Place is a very nice apartment and the staff most helpfull. However some of the rooms they have are a bit cell like as there are wooden bars on the outside of the windows. This is not shown in their on line photos. We stayed there during a jazz festival which was very noisy and resulted in us sleeping in three different apartments to avoid the noise.the best was on level twelve.1208 rm number. They also need to have a mat at their entrance for guests to wipe their feet on rainy days and there is a smell of drains in the lift.Otherwise its very central to trams and buses and supermarkets. This could be a 5 star if double glazing were fitted and the wooden bars on one side of the apartment removed.Beds very comfy too.

I had a short holiday 'fix' in Melbourne during January this year. The weather was absolutely appalling as it was wet, cold (19c) and even hailed one day. However, this did not dampen my 'fix' whatsoever. Victoria Markets are all undercover and shopping there was a real treat especially as I picked up a couple of bargain handbags - the only place to buy handbags. I travel from Perth just to buy handbags at the Vic Markets! The Circle Tram takes you to most places of interest around the city so we were kept dry. From our hotel - Fraser Place, we were able to walk to Lygon Street for dinner and fortunately the evenings were dry and clear.

A trip to St Kilda on the tram filled in an afternoon. We took a gusty walk out on the pier to see the penguins who decided to stay undercover - we could hear them, just not see them. We took a walk through Luna Park but didn't venture onto any of the rides. Dinner in a sidewalk cafe was inexpensive and enjoyable. A 20 minute tram trip and we were back in our hotel which was very comfortable. Our room was large, contained a kitchenette with gas hotplates and cooking equipment. We had bought eggs and bacon so treated ourselves to cooked breakfasts each morning. Most hotels only supply a microwave, but the Fraser hotel contained both, plus a dishwasher, all the necessary cooking implements, crockery, glassware and cutlery. Even a bottleopener! We had got this hotel at real bargain from TravelZoo - $80 a night. I think it is usually around $130 or more per night.
A friend took us for a drive to the Yarra Valley where we visited a few wineries and had lunch at Eleanor's Cafe - a lovely hotel/restaurant. Dinner at the Docklands was enjoyable and once again a short tram ride back to our hotel. We visited the Library which is a beautiful building and even a trip to the Museum - all dry entertaining excursions. So, Melbourne you're still on the favourites list and I'll be back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view - we looked out to the library dome - plus we had a little balcony.
